At what I'm paying right now: $3.08 / gal

Gas was $1.50 10 years ago. That's a difference of $1.58 extra in ten years. That's actually not that much.... and prices have fluctuated from around $4.00 / gal to what I'm paying now. I haven't seen $4.01 + / gal in the last ten years, unless it was during a tragedy such as a big hurricane.

I don't see gas prices increasing so much in the near future to actually noticeably affect my income.

Then why have an SS? This is like being married to a super model, but when you take her out you make her wear huge sunglasses with baggy sweatshirt and sweatpants!

No pumps near me offer 93 so I always get 91, but I'm definitely not complaining with gas prices being as low as they are now. I was paying 4.19 a gallon, it is down to 3.39
Until next summer that is

Gotta pay to play! I don't even pay attention to the gas prices because it's always changing and I know that I have a V8!

I don't know your level of knowledge about the economy and things like the consumer price index (CPI) and inflation, median household income, productivity measures, GDP, how wage growth is tracked, income distribution. It's really simple stuff to understand and if you aren't too knowledgeable on this stuff, I'd highly recommend adding something like the Wall Street Journal into your daily reads, or if you're still in school, taking a basic economics course. This stuff is important.

The punch line is Americans are more productive and have more advanced skillets than ever, their costs as consumers have risen, yet their wages haven't kept pace with either of those things.

That's not good. I'll leave the rest to you to understand.

Gasoline is cheaper than it was 4 months ago. It is SKY HIGH in historical context. Inflation-adjusted, we make less money than we did in 1999 by about 10%, yet food and fuel has increased by over 100%. We are worse than flat broke. We are indebted.
Excellent post.Sadly, this trend will continue.

I'm guessing they'll start climbing back up shortly after next Tuesday. Politics is controlling the current price drop.

I went to the track a couple of weeks ago to the nearest gas station, noticed 93 was 60 cents a gallon more, drove an extra mile down the road and got the 93 for 40 cents more a gallon. I figured being next to the track the station was gouging track guys, but now it is that way in town where I live. Must be the new marketing campaign, get regular low, and make up for it with everything else.

I agree. Lowering gas prices will make some people think that Obama and the Dems are doing a good job to jack up the economy.

However, don't overlook the fact that it takes more crude to produce the higher octane and more distillation operations. More cost to produce means higher price at the pump.
