Question Taking a very modified Camaro to France.

Hey guys,

I wanna' take my Camaro to France with me, probably for the rest of my days. It is a ten second car now, and it may be a nine second car before I leave ( I may spray it before the blower)

Obviously, there are significant differences in this car from the original: built bottom end, stroked engine (416 these days), heads, Kenne Bell twin screw blower, cam, long tubes (no cats), methyl/water injection, multiple tunes available (for the last year it's been running on E-85 exclusively, but that can easily be changed). The other changes: cage, suspension, et cætera don't come into the calculation since they have nuthin' to do with the engine sound, power, nor its fumes of exhaust.

Does anyone of you guys know what the Frenchies may expect of my car upon its shipment to their country? There is no language problem, so leave that part out.

It will be next to impossible to really drive such an animal there. Traffic is terribly only exceeded by the bad drivers.

Have any video of this car on the track?

I'm not sure exactly how much detailed info you need, but a quick google search brought this up:

http://ambafrance-us.org/spip.php?article782

Also, I found this post in regards to converting it to EU safety and emissions standards:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=204688

A little googling would take you a long way, from what i've read, don't bother. I suspect almost all of your external engine modifications won't pass the Euro V emissions specs.

My guess would be, you will spend 10s of thousands just to make it legal and getting it there.

If you think your car gets insulted on Mustang forums, just wait until you get to France.

Please tell me you have cutouts,
and that at every stop light you will open them up and rev the engine, just so that all those whiney, cry baby, cheese eating surrender monkeys will lose their $hit, and fall off of their Vespa scooter as they choke on your exhaust fumes.

Yes, but there are no Europeans standing around telling the guy saying it that "American's say the same thing about us..."

I've been there, lived there. Sounds like Bulldog has too.

I disagree. When I was in college back in 2011 there was a Parisian that came over to do a semester at Baylor. Real cool guy, he ended up buying a 4th gen. Z/28 that was mildly moded and brought it back to Paris with him. A year later I did a study abroad in Europe, I was in Paris for a couple of days and met up with him. He picked be up in his 4th gen and showed me around Paris. We cruised down the Champs Elysées, which is arguably one of the nicest sections in Paris, it seemed like every other car was a Porsche, Ferrari, Mercedes or BMW and no one was even looking at those cars. Here we come rolling through in a loud 4th gen. Z/28 and people are taking out camera's and video recording as we drive by. It was absolutely hilarious.

Here's a video of us going in a parking garage on the Champs Elysées, literally every other car is an exotic..

OP, I say go for it! It would definitely turn heads, it may not be very convenient but if you really like the car then don't get rid of it.

How awesome is that? Too bad we can't really go over there unless of course you have a personal tour guide like you did....A lot of people in Europe do not like Americans or at least several people who visit there often tell me...

I was in Europe for about a month for my study abroad. In that time I was in Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France and England. In my experience it is about how you carry yourself over there. Most Europeans were super nice and I had no issues with them. However I knew I was the foreigner in THEIR country that didn't speak THEIR language (very well). I think the problem that a lot of European's have is when American's come over acting like we're God's gift to man, being ignorant and getting frustrated with THEM when they don't understand us (when we're speaking English).

I have been overseas plenty of times and rarely got hate for having an American Passport.
