last I heard Chrysler was going to take away hell cat allocation from any dealer that marked them up and gouged the price if the car stayed on the lot past a specific number of days as a result of the price gouge..

I wonder if that still hold true:

http://www.torquenews.com/106/dodge-...y-burn-dealers

“If you want to market-adjust the car, that’s your right. But if your days-on-lot goes above what the other guys that are selling them at MSRP is, they will end up earning the allocation because their days-on-lot will be lower. They’re turning the inventory,” said Kuniskis. “Some dealers are going to have heartburn with that. I want this car out in the marketplace so that somebody is sharing it with 50 of their friends and elevating the brand. That’s what I want; not sitting in your showroom with a rope around it. I want people driving these cars, talking about them, revving the engine and having everybody go ‘I want one of those.’ That’s why you build a halo car.”

The cars name pays homage to one of the U.S. Navy's most fearsome World War Two fighter aircraft, the Grumman F6F Hellcat.

The Hellcat was designed to counter the Mitsubshi A6M Zero wich at the time was kicking the shit out of our older outdated Naval aircraft.
The Hellcat proved vastly superior to the Zero and secured air superiority for the allies in the pacific helping turn the tide of the war. The Hellcat had the highest kill ration of any allied naval aircraft in the entire war.

The F6F Hellcat was a feared and leathal machine, a total game changer at the time that brought a lot of pain to its adversary's. Guess that's why Dodge gave a nod to it in naming these cars.
Yeah, but this is a Dodge Charger, and it's a car, not a fighter aircraft developed by Grumman. It's a car that's owned by an Italian company, and I don't think one of these Chargers has ever been deployed in combat. So, the name is a little lost on me from that perspective. YMMV

The allocations will be based on "speed" of sale.
That's an interesting idea.

Back story is that Dodge uses fighter plane names as code names when they are developing a new engine. This is the first time that one of the code names actually was tagged to name the car.

Not that I think a Hellcat would be a car I want to own, but this is a GREAT idea to help force dealers to think about the gouge. If the dealer is in the midst of a bunch of people with a lot of money but not a lot of brains, then they'll gouge and still sell. But generally, if they don't move them, they lose them. Novel idea! Love it!

More money than brains translates to enough money that $25,000 doesn't really matter. These are cash buyers that can afford whatever they want. Payng the premium gets them behind the wheel first and its understood that the extra paid evaporates the minute supply catches up to demand.

I'm always on the other end of this. I wait until supply exceeds demand to buy and never pay full MSRP.

As lethal as the Hellcat was in the Pacific, I don't think it was as potent as the F4 Corsair, and I don't forsee Dodge naming any of there vehicles any time soon..

I don't bleed just one maker either, Dodge has some of the best looking vehicals over all today but the quality, and the high cost is ridiculous..

Hate to say it but the best car I ever owned was a Lexus, that car was solid for the 10 years I owned it, 300k miles, and when I sold it it was still running strong as the day I purchased it..

I own a Toyota Tacoma now, so far it's been a solid truck, I really wanted a Ford Raptor, but just didn't want the payment that comes with it. Plus it was more of a want, and more truck then I need but if the Tacoma does me just as good as the Lexus did I will be happy..

I'd be more interested in seeing a comparison in regards to specific models such as Camaro vs Challengers in that category.
