I don't think the clutch is electronically controlled. From what I have been reading, it knows when there is a sudden change in RPM and disengages or decouples, that is probably why it is also referred to as a decoupler. Letting the alternator decouple from the belt drive and free spin for a brief moment. In other instances it can also dampen vibration.

It's just a slipper clutch, frees up a minute amount of power, like a fan clutch does.

Yeah, I googled it and came to pretty much the same conclusion......

They used these for vibration on the 3.9l Impala V6 with AFM also.

i have a m6 2014 1le with a supercharger and it has spun 2 alternator pulleys free . i need some kind of clutched pulley cause it happens on hard shifts at high rpms at the track. can i put this alternator on my m6 car? or can i buy just this pulley?

Robbs1le you should start a new thread. Im thinking red lock tite on the pully might be enough.
