ECM/ECU Died.. JK CANBUS issues with FPCM.. Argh

Got my car back finally after the JDP 850 install and tune. I put about 50 miles on the car last Friday. Other than what appeared to be some misfire and the backfiring at cruising speed (with periodic check engine light) it seemed fine.

Saturday morning it fired up and I noticed check engine line was flashing before I even left the driveway. Went away after a few mins. Got about a mile away and that is when dash lit up, speedo\tach stopped working, random service notifications displayed (suspension, power steering, etc) as well as many other buttons, TCS, etc and a few center console gauges. Basically went bar shut crazy. Haha. Also, noticed the car lost power and wouldn’t shift out of first. I immediately shut it off and it fired back up. No change and I nursed it home.

Once home I tried to hook up my scanner to try and read codes and the scanner could not connect. Turned key and it wouldn’t not turnover. I did disconnect the battery to reset the ECU but that didn’t make a difference either. Very odd.

Towed it back to the shop and they checked all grounds and couldn't find any issues. Took it to the dealer and turns out the ECM that is used has a known problem as well as the wiring having pin contact issues. Basically the pin contacts become loose which of course causes issues. Just curious if anyone has run into this?

Also, shockingly enough the dealer is going to warranty it!

Sounds like you've got a great dealer. I asked mine to do a crank relearn and they laughed. Hope you get it all sorted out.

My ecm died on me last year I keeped getting throttle pedal code and it would go in to restricted performance so put a throttle pedal in it drove the car it happened again almost instantly so I hooked up a meter and checked my wires and monitored the ECM and drove the car watched the meter when it went in to restricted performance and found my ecm wound go open resistance the car was tuned so I got my own ecm and towed it to a dealer payed them to program it then had it retuned and its been fine ever since its awesome the dealer is doing your ECM under warranty

There was a guy on the forum about a year ago that chased a throttle bogg, that turned out to be loose connections on his ECU, and the dealer replaced..

Thx guys. Will keep ya updated. Was def a huge buzzkill after having just getting the car back!

I am not sure they have to warranty since the ECM was already modified from the tune. I am guessing if this wasn't somewhat of a common issue I'd be out of luck.

I see that you have a 13. Is it a known problem with other years to or is it specific to 2013 zl1? its cool that your dealer is fixing it after your mods.

I don't think it's unique to the 13 or even the ZL1 for that matter.

ECM/ECU Died

Here are the codes I threw on the one time I could even read the ECU

P0036
P0056
U0109
UO101
U0100

And yes very cool if the dealer to still warranty it. Although the ECM is much cheaper than I expected. $400

I would just make them aware it's common issue of they do not already know. Maybe even print out this thread.
