You guys are too harsh on the OP. It wasn't his fault he got not 1 or 2 or 3 or however many tickets. The cops were wrong, they don't know what they law is and may need corrective lenses to do their job. The OP is innocent.

My first post to you was about you changing your driving habits, which you need to do.
You asked for comments and help. You got them and don't like what you got....so now you want to bash those giving the comments.
You are coming off as someone who wants to complain about the tickets, put off facing the music by postponing the court dates, those are not the actions a responsible adult takes. If all you are looking for is a pat on the back and sympathy then yeah you came to the wrong place. Maybe you need to be on the Oprah show..

LOL Great response!!! I think he's got some growing up to do.....must be because I also am over 60!!

I thought my responses were commentary as he asked for and helpful as he asked for if you read between the lines. Get a Lawyer or get a metro pass for the bus and train.

To OP:

We're young and drive fast, expensive sports cars.

I have been pulled over once ... and that was for driving without a front license plate.

Even though in Texas, it is a law... but something HARDLY enforced. (Law is a law though)

Sucked it up, paid the $10 fine and threw license plates on the front.

Had I been 20 years older, driving with a much calmer exhaust (I have straight pipes) I probably wouldn't have got the ticket.

So just suck it up, get a lawyer and go from there. There's no other way around it.

The tint thing gives you away. Even though you know you are violating the law you try to rationalize it. Man-up, it will carry you so much further in life.

That's kind of my concern. I do that stuff all the time... and, lifetime stats show that I've been cited once for about every 5000 times I've done "something." I figure if somebody gets a citation for something, they've probably done it 5000 times and gotten away with it.

However, as I've gotten older (47 years old now), I've gotten better at not getting caught, I guess. I still break traffic laws all the time (not asking for absolution or agreement, just laying it out on the table here), but have a perfectly clean driving record. Got a minor speeding ticket 18 months ago (record wiped clean, thanks to traffic school), my first citation of any kind in ten years. Lots of it is luck, sure... but I drive a yellow Camaro, in Commiefornia, for the love of Pete. There's not a week that goes by that I don't hit triple digits somewhere, and drifting is part of my daily commute. If nobody is around, I don't use my f'n turn signals, and my traction control gets turned off frequently so I can take more rubber off of my tires.

But... I generally slow down for obstacles that might be hiding a cop. I don't fluck with people, I don't cut anybody off. I signal when ANYBODY is around, and my vehicle meets all local regs: No tint, no prohibited lights, no beer cans ever fly out of my window when I might hit a cop. I keep a short haircut, and I wear nice clothes. My car is clean, and my registration and insurance (kept in a neat envelope) are up to date. And when I DO get pulled over... I am respectful, apologetic, and willing to let all of my dignity evaporate in an effort to pump up the ego of the guy with the citation book. I act like a silly, dumb, submissive geek... and let the cop feel like he's a powerful force with the power to choose whether or not my life will suck or not. and... 90% of the time, it works... no citation. Plenty of lectures, and stern warnings... big f'n deal. WAAAAAAYYYY cheaper and easier than citations. Suck up your pride for a few minutes, and be a little bitch... it's worth it.

When I was young, I got pulled over all the time... I mean, A LOT. But, I made the choice to smarten up, my way. Some people smarten up by learning to drive like a hands- at- 10- and- 2 librarian- type on her way to the knitting club. Others of us have chosen to learn how to avoid getting caught, while still having fun.

My advice to the OP, after you get your driver's license back: Put some thought into strategy. Either stop driving like that... or learn how to avoid getting caught driving like that.

Or just save the $400 and do the speed limit.

As far as the tint, take it off, they will drop those. Unless you want to continually get pulled over for it and probably other things.

You should contact a lawyer like everyone else says, because you also have to worry about the New York State Driver Assessment Fee. It goes like this:

What is a driver responsibility assessment?
The driver responsibility assessment is a fee you must pay to DMV over a three year period if you are convicted of certain traffic offenses in New York State or accumulate six or more points on your driving record within 18 months. This fee is in addition to any fines, penalties or surcharges that you must pay for a traffic conviction. The purpose of the assessment is to prevent the repeated behavior of problem drivers and to improve traffic safety.

How much will that cost you?
If you receive 6 points on your driver record for violations committed during a period of 18 months, the annual assessment is $100. The minimum amount that you must pay each year is the annual assessment. The total assessment for the three years is $300. If you receive more than 6 points on your driver record during a period of 18 months, the annual assessment is $25 for each point in addition to the original six points. The minimum amount that you must pay each year is the annual assessment. The total assessment for the three years is $75 for each point in addition to the original 6 points.

I've been drag racing since 1990, have had one speeding ticket in my entire time driving, and been 156mph at the track, so I obviously like speed and I am obviously not as foolish and reckless as you, the OP. Suck it up and pay for your mistakes. This entitled generation that we have to deal with now makes me want to puke.

I had to take a friend to DMV last month because their license was suspended (forgot to pay a parking ticket), actually had a bench warrant issued! So, I drive them to DMV and jokingly ask the people working at DMV how did all these other people get here to get their suspended DL's reinstated. They looked at me with a straight face and said most of them simply drive themselves there! Amazing. I guess there are those of us that follow the rules, and these are many who could care less.

Driving is a priviledge, not a right! Seems people forget about this all the time!
