I've only bounced the rev limiter once. and it just didnt feel right. Lots of fun under the redline, and less wear/tear.

I am with you on this. The rev limiter is there as a safety, not as a daily functional device. Now, it is also placed at a point with a good bit of safety factor so it comes in long before engine damage can occur. OP, you do realize that you are eliminating a bunch of your vehicles performance by hitting the chip (your not going as fast as you can). Get all you can out of the car, consume your consumables at a faster rate, and service your car properly and it will last for a very long time or abuse it and it will die an early death.

I kick it in the shorts every now and then just to let it know who's making the payments.

They don't like it? Says who?

You can beat on it without issues, as long as you regularly maintain it. It'll be just fine.

Much lesser cars with much lesser maintenance have made it to 200,000 miles.

I put 200K on our '93 Z/28 (developed the LT1 nitrous system on it) and the '01 WS-6 and they were used as hard as I could. Always did good maintenance, and never had any major issues.

I've had Trans Ams and a Corvette in my youth, so it's out of my system to a degree. Now my wife, this is her first muscle car and she is, uh..."spirited" on the throttle. Had the top down last Saturday, it was out first truly warm day here and everyone had their summer cars out. My wife spent half the day "hunting". At every light she was like:

Wife: "What's that?"
Me: "An '85 Vette."
Wife: "Can I take it?"
Me: "Yes honey."
Wife: <green light...peddle to the floor>
Wife: "What's that?"
Me: "2010 Mustang."
Wife: "Oh, f$&k him!"
Wife: <peddle to the floor>
Wife: "What's that?"
Me: "Mazda RX8."
Wife: "Can I take that?"
Me: "Yes, honey."
Wife: <pedal to the floor>
Wife: "What's that?"
Me:"C7 Stingray."
Wife: "Oh."
Me: "Just smile and wave, babe, just smile and wave..."

Yup, I heard that.

Is anyone familiar with those 3.8 3800 that GM used in the Monte Carlo's, Grand Prix's, Bonneville, etc.

Those engines honest to God were the best engine I have ever seen bang for buck. Those things were damn near bullet proof. I gave my younger brother my 2002 Monte Carlo SS, has 225k miles on it. Perfect interior and the things drives brand new.

I absolutely loved those things.

That's just an example of how it relates back to topic, the majority of vehicles out there are going to run how you maintain them.

Of course people who don't drive it as often and aren't as hard on it are going to get more out of their car. But driving it like it's meant to be with the proper maintenance is going to serve you justice.

I probably baby it most of the time, but do kick it down once in a while. My only question about your driving habits is, Where do you drive that you can do this all the time?
