Interesting, first time I saw the oil consumption issue mentioned in print (all of page 2) http://www.motor.com/magazine/pdfs/112013_06.pdf
It says normal is 1qt per 2000mi and you sound way over that if I read right. The chart on page one looks like a good tool. I cringe that someone dumped this car knowing of the issue,.... I know I considered it, and I do worry who will end up with it after I traded it to my GM dealer.

not a light, but according to the owners manual there is a "low oil level" warning for the DIC.

The manual is wrong, it does not exists. Again not sure on the 14-15.

Ok, do what you want. But try and find just 1 V6 owner that has ever seen it on these boards out of the many, many that have had low oil issue. I'd bet you cannot find a single 1. Every post you'll find will sound something like this, "I just checked my oil and there was none (or really low) and there was no warning"

Again, it does not exist and this has even been confirmed by dealers.

I did lots of reading up on this over past few weeks, and I came across many sources saying the LLT doesn't have a low oil level sensor. If it does have a oil level sensor, how come no auto parts sites have a replacement part?

EditToAdd: See also http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=265909 From post #25: "But whatever, whine all you want about an oil level gauge, like it or not, you don't have one so you better be checking your oil the old fashioned way....end of story".

The V8's seem to have one, but I'm not going to rely on it after getting burned by my V6.

Dyslexia gets the best of me sometimes........ With 256,000 miles I have ran 4 qts low a couple times and never had any light come on but the idle seems to get erratic, add the four qts and it smooths right out.

1) You WILL NOT see "blue smoke" on this car, the cat will burn it off before it gets to the tailpipe.

2) That much oil usage is too much, take it to a dealership who will check it out for you and give you the correct advice on how to handle it.

3) I suspect some internal issues, bad rings, bad piston, etc. Has it thrown any codes, check engine light come on? May not show up for some time, but eventually a code will be thrown (misfire in cy. #?).

Good luck with it! You have 100,000 miles on the powertrain, I wouldn't worry much. I would, however, take it somewhere they know what's going on, you don't want someone tearing down the motor who thinks 1 1/2 quart usage of oil in 1,000 miles is "normal".

Lately, I get the "ENGINE OIL LOW ADD OIL" message on the DIC at least 2 times between oil changes. This has been gradually getting worse for about a year now. Came on 3 times before my oil change last week.

Dealer is starting an oil consumption test....thinks it may be pistons/ rings. I have to go in every 1000 miles and let them measure the oil level. No leaks....no smoke....but I do have black soot build-up on the muffler tips.

We'll see what happens.

I responded previously about the '11 1LS I owned before my current Camaro. It burned about 1qt every 2500 miles. I just wanted to mention that it too always had a lot of black soot around the tail pipes that I constantly had to clean. I was dreading that a bit when I got the 1LE I have now with the NPP (4 tail pipes to clean), but I haven't had anything like that coming out of the LS3 yet. That LLT in the LS was a good running engine, but it did make me paranoid about pulling the dip stick to check on it every fuel up or every two weeks whichever came first. Been checking my LS3 pretty often too because of that habit, but haven't noticed low levels yet where I needed to add any oil. I half expected it to be worse with the V8, but so far so good.
