Borla Axle Back 2015 11845 S-Type Specifically

I searched a lot and find little about the Borla 11845 S-Type Axle Back for the latest years.

This one.

There is one video with a trunk mounted camera that's ok, but I need more from behind (never would imagine I'd ever use those words in a sentence!!)

There is some video on the older model 11776 for '10 to '13.

I fear the mighty drone! But I do want better sound.

I don't want to disrupt the whole system, it's too new, just the rear section.

All the reading says drone is there from the best of them ... JBA, Magnaflow, Flowmaster, MRT, I've found drone reviews on all of them, and they all have drone.

This Borla is the only Axle Back I've not been able to find any reports of drone about. I've seen the one post where one guy thought is sound to Ricer, but no drone.

So, I'm pretty sure this is the right choice, but would like to have better video.

Anyone put the Borla 11845 on their '14-'15 v6? Please pipe in here (pun intended). Anyone in South Florida that I can listen to? Do you get 2K'ish rpm drone?

One curiosity ... on Borla, says S-Type is straight through, but the picture shows offset in and out. I know there is a Touring model for earlier years, but the only Borla Axle Back for '15 is the S-Type.

Does anyone have specific results on '14 or '15 v6 with Borla 11845? More video?

Thanks!

I saw that system on the Phastek site and they came back and sat it was an error on the Web site. I believe the only axle back system they make for us V6ers is the touring system.

Please double check and let me know if that is not the case!

The link above that says This One is to Borla's site. They would know, right? S- Type, not touring. Phastek's typo was touring.

I would think so, just looks like the oval touring mufflers. I would call up Borla and double check. I'm not saying that they don't make the S Type for the v6, just double check with Borla directly.

Mistakes happen from time to time.

Haven't pulled the trigger yet. Have been thinking about the borla touring system, flowmaster AT with a resonated x pipe or a magnaflow custom system. Haven't made up my mind yet.

Too loud. Drone city. And the sound I want needs some chambering for the v6.

I called Borla. First I have to say they are a good company to call and get answers. I got a representative on the phone immediately. I regret I did not catch his name he deserves credit good guy. The answer is for this model vehicle and the 6 they have the cat back system is the touring but the axle back is definitely s-type. Definitive information. The other good thing and maybe I'm drinking the Kool Aid, but he told me why Borla and he said they don't use fiberglass so that's why they can offer two million mile warranty and they do stand behind it. He also told me that are straight through and they are designed for this car in particular. They have designed the GM version and so have the different resonance parameters for the car and this 11 845 is in fact designed for this vehicle and he stated very clearly there will be no drone. So as far as I can tell I'm going with Borla. He said that idle and cruising low rpm low throttle opening it's going to be just a bit deeper and sound a little bit better but it really opens up with throttle. That's what I'm looking for. I hope this information helps. I would love if anybody has any specific experience to share here before I make the purchase. After, I will share what I have. Thanks.

I just put the 11776 on my '15 and it's pretty good. No real drone at all, deeper sound and pretty subdued actually. Between the exhaust and CAI it makes a good bit of noise when I get on it hard and sounds fine. I'd be willing to go a bit louder, actually, if I could make sure it doesn't add drone or that dreaded ricer rasp.

almost forgot- $288 on Amazon. was an opened box, but complete and unused- no flaws

Now that's a twist! Why did you go with 11776 and not the 11845 which is for the '15?

Because it fits and was $288. You just need to cut closer to the muffler can than the instructions state.

So they are shorter than the 11845 ... I saw another forum post talking about the diffuser change in 2014 being the difference. How did you know how much? Instead of 59 cm from the can, where did you cut? You're happy with where the tips ended up?

Why would they go through a whole new SKU if they could just revise the instructions for the model years? I sense another call to Borla in my future.

Thanks for the info.

UPDATE: Spoke to Borla again. Overall length is the reason for the new SKU with the change of bumper/diffuser in 2014/15. According to Borla, an 11776 is shorter from the can to the tip and having the car's pipe cut closer to the can would mean the pipe is longer and the muffler would be swung back (out of spec) in the hangers toward the bumper to make up for it. He said when cold, you actually want it swung a bit forward so with heat it expands back to "vertical". The 11776 would be already swung too far back when cold and want to expand further.

Seems the "right" way to make the 11776 work would be to lengthen it from can to tip, so the muffler can hang right. But that's just an 11845.

The above seems maybe academic since VTSummit did it and said it seems fine, and for $300+ less! Hmmm.

Tough one. BTW, they are the same exact cans.

Also, I asked if the mufflers are just like Pro X or some other and he emphatically said "NO". Those cans are designed specifically for that car/motor. They tried a number of others and none held up to Borla's standard for release for sound/result.

Do they really think heat expansion is that much? LOL
My tips don't extend back really far, but plans are to put quads on at some point when I change the diffuser. This car is just a commuter for me, so any mods are only done based on sales. I put my fun money into my weekend car.
Having the cans pushed back on the hangers won't harm a thing, but you probably won't get the tips to stick way out. I wasn't doing it for the look... the quad tips will be for the look. What I want to figure out is if I remove the front resonator will they get raspy?
The extra space on the tip end will make the quad conversion WAY easier
