As for giving the thief weapon and ammo? Not my problem. My problem is the stolen car which I want found ASAP. Given normal local law enforcement response times to GTA, the added firearm will make it a higher priority.
Why not just say there was a Gun in your car that was stolen?

Not to highjack the thread but...Technically, you're right. But the burden of proof would on you to prove it was really in the trunk and not the back seat when the perp gained access to it. If he/she disputed that claim. The gun and its owner are evil in CA and I'd hate to be up against a liberal attorney/judge on that one, in this state. I can't afford that kind of justice.

They told me that the button must be pushed in the car to perform a software update before they would be able to locate the car. I stopped using OnStar after the first year. Even then, with all of the ways to circumnavigate the system, I really don't see how it could have helped my situation. The car appears to have been electrically disabled quickly in order to keep a low profile, and was taken during a police shift change, which points to a pro job.

Because they would ask for the serial number and that's asking to be caught lying to the police.

As far as theives finding me there's no identifiable info in my car. I keep a photo of my registration on my phone for traffic stops.

Legally buy a cheap gun then keep it at home or destroy it. If someone steals your car, just say the gun/ammo was locked in the trunk. If the car/thief are found, who are the cops going to believe, you or the thief?

Lawlz, why is everyone on this forum's first response lie to law enforcement? The amount of trouble if you get caught in that lie is not worth it.

As for proving in court that the rifle was stored properly and not in the back seat? Who are they going to believe more? A person on trial for a felony or someone with a clean record and military service?

No onstar is removed before the car is driven away. It is actually more useful to the thieves than the owner. Some use it to access the car without setting off the alarm, or messing with door locks. Then a few screws and it is disconnected and of no use.

Just got a PM, and I may have a lead from a forum member who thinks he saw it in a parking lot today. I let the police know.

that's great, but if the thieves are monitoring these boards, this message may alert them.
