I got the oil pan off and found a wrist pin, a broken rod and about a thousand pieces of piston, rod, and block casting. I still need to tear it down but here's what I see so far.

Yeah, that's doable. Remember, the tranny won't last long at those levels. I never really got around to see if an adapter could be made to fit a 6L80/90 to the LFX. Take a look at that while you got it all apart...and take some measurement. You never know when you might need them.

What was your timing advance during your last run? Just seems like runaway detonation with the ring lands. Piston seized and the crank tried to push it and shattered the rod.

Yikes.
Yeah I'll do a lot of measuring while it's out. I've been told that the 6l80 would be tough for the tuning and that a 4l80 would be easier. I don't know how true that is but that's what I heard. Luckily I can get used trannys with 1K miles on them all day long for $900.

There are supposedly some modules out now that you can use to bridge the ECU and TCM. The 4L80 was the last option I was looking at. It looked like it would fit (eyeballing it) and you have the option for a 6-speed gearset and tap shifting. You might want to look into it as they have kits to make those things really tough.

I'll try to make some templates for the future and for anyone else that wants to try and make an adapter. I probably can't afford a swap like that right now. Remember, I'm having to do this on a Mechanic's salary. So there are limits lol.

It wasn't bad, calls for 8.7 hours to remove and reinstall so should take about 3.5 to 4 hours to get it out. Took me a lot longer because I had to just work on it as I could. Plus I had to remove the whole turbo kit too.

Cool, I hope mine holds together long enough til i get my next gen so i wont be in a rush to get it back together. I am just worried that i wont have enough spark to work on a 150shot resulting in what you have.

I hope yours holds together too, we can't all blown up our motors trying to get to the 11's.

So you're getting a 6th gen and keeping your 5th gen? What are you going to get... 4, 6, or 8?

Finally got the motor unlocked. There was a chunk of rod wedged in between the crank counterweight and the block. Broke that piece out and now she turns.

Plan is to keep this car as my DD, and get a 2017 Zl1 50th anniversary edition as my weekend toy. Guess it will depend on the price tag. Hoping it wont exceed 60k, but who knows!!

Just saw this post. I wasn't logging anything but from the last logging I did the most timing I saw at WOT was 20-21 degrees. The grand finally will be getting the heads off and seeing the piston tops. That should tell us a lot.
