I doubt this is GM at the helm, although some are right marketing ploy. Same thing with the Nintendo Wii make less and people will die for it. However do not forget the GOV has a huge say in what GM does now. Not saying the SS is the best beast on the road but they may have given GM a nod like you guys are not going in the direction we think you should go. But at the fore front is marketing ploy....

Sounds like poor management to me. If a buyer is willing to spend more on the V8 then so be it!!! Let the custumer get what he / she wants and be done with it. Besides, GM needs all the frickin volume they can get to keep it out of competiters hands!!

I don't really think this is the issue. Ford limits Mustang GT production as well. GM most likely didn't want TOO many SS models out there as it would devalue them.

I can see GM having not limited the SS production initially in order to gauge demand for the SS. Now that they know people want it faster than they can build it, they will likely keep the V8 in the lineup longer even after CAFE restrictions limit fleet efficiency. They can always get around a V8's poor mileage by producing more small engine vehicles (Cruze, volt, etc)! I'm trying to put a positive spin on things...

I kind of agree with you. The CAFE requirements could play a role in this but there could be additional reasons as well. Corvette sales have plummeted. Maybe some SS owners were canibalized from Vette sales? Maybe it's supplier issues? All I know is that I did my part to prop up the V6 sales.

Good, makes the SS a little more rare. Not like the common folk can tell the difference though.

However, at that price who wouldn't want the SS? I'm shocked that they thought a 426 HP beast for not much more extra was not going to sell as well as the V6.

I vote for this answer.

"To meet the new federal standards, auto companies will have to drastically change their product lineups in a relatively short time.

The companies have declined so far to comment on the costs involved in meeting a fleet standard of 35 miles a gallon. For starters, the automakers will probably have to sharply reduce the number of low-mileage models, like pickup trucks and large sedans."

It would be better to fill the V6 orders first, the V8 orders aren't going anywhere.

But who really knows...
