It sure should not require much clamping force for no more than what engine oil pumps put out for pressure. Recommend checking both surfaces for flatness with a small parallel.... And maybe hit those surfaces lightly with a hone stone. Reading this thread for a while now, you definately have paid due attention to detail. #respect

lube the o-rings first and make sure they aren't dry and it should enhance the seal. I didn't realize your oil cooler adapter didn't use the factory GM gasket.

I'd reconfirm o ring placement. Mine kept shifting out of their groove and it took a few times to stay properly seated.

I’d have to say this ^^^ would help. When you drilled and tapped for the Heli-coil it slightly raised the material around the hole. Aluminum and other soft metals are pretty bad about doing this. You could use a stone like mentioned above or a good straight file, keeping it flat against your work and making sure you don’t bend it by keeping all the pressure over the part surface. You can also use a layout dye to help see your work. Dykem is good layout dye and it’s fairly easy to find. It’s an aerosol and cleans up with brake or carb cleaner.

OK fair enough, but annoying

I will try 21 lb.ft, and if it doesn't seem to work, instead of increasing torque further, I'll work on the surfaces. You know, perhaps I should open up an auto shop when I retire; this is becoming crazy!

I think you're the winner. Looked like one of the o-rings was a bit off. I ordered a 25 pack. I also ordered 0.5mm thicker O-rings so I can check which one fits better.

In short, I've ordered M1.5x16 Viton 75 duro, and M2x16 Viton.

Camaro surgery list:
  • Eaton helical type differential
  • Z/28 diff cooler
  • Switch back to OEM engine mounts
  • Replacing damaged brake caliper
  • Tick remote bleeder
  • Exhaust R&R
  • Diff fluid: Redline 75W90 NS
  • Brake / clutch bleeding
  • Oil cooler adapter thread fix
  • Engine oil: Mobil1 5W-30 ESP
  • NGX TR5IX Spark plugs
  • Headers R&R
  • Transmission fluid: Amsoil Signature ATF
  • Cold air intake cleaning
  • Schroth Rallye 3 removal
  • Harness bar and plates install
  • Schroth Profi II

Almost done! The new O-rings did the trick, and it doesn't seem to be leaking (will check again in the morning, in case it did overnight).

I finally took it out for a drive, and I'm loving the OEM engine mounts. All the vibrations at idle and clutch engagement are gone. I also went full throttle from the stop signs (after engaging clutch) to see if the helical diff would prevent spin, but it starts spinning at around 3500 RPMs; the traction from MPSC 2 track tires at 47 degrees ambient is also limited, anyway.

In short, I'm loving the car! Everything works fine. I'll just install the new harness bar + harness before the track day on 14th, and that should be it! Here is hoping the weather doesn't get worse. It currently shows cloudy with rain possible at 52 degrees F for 14th. If it doesn't rain, I might even break my best time with that much cold; who knows : )

DONE!!!

  • Headers R&R
  • Transmission fluid: Amsoil Signature ATF
  • Cold air intake cleaning
  • Schroth Rallye 3 removal
  • Harness bar and plates install
  • Schroth Profi II

The car is now ready for track! Here is hoping weather doesn't get worse for the 11/14 track day

I hate adding extra layers to bolts without making up for the lost length of bolt inside the thread. My bolt on the left has same length as the OEM bolt on the right, but it has a longer thread depth on it, compensating for the tank plate's thickness, which is also pictured:

I wonder if this harness bar helps/adds on rigidity of the car:

Profi II ASM harness is so much better than the Rallye 3 or my cheap 6-point harness on my Miata. The smooth surface makes it substantially easier to pull it, and it is also lighter than the cheaper units. Looking forward to trying it out at the track:

I can also just remove the whole harness for street use, but tucking them aside is the easiest.

Looking forward to trying the diff + MPSC 2 tires:

Nice build just subscribed, btw are you in some mechanical field because even though you're doing bolt on mods, you are doing a lot at the same time. (maybe it's just too much for a noob like me).

Great build. way to fine tune the car.

I'm actually a software engineer, but I have a car lift, air tools, good selection of regular tools, etc. A friend of mine always said: "a man is only as good as his tools"

UPDATES!

It turns out I'm a truck guy. The V6 Durango, despite its 6200 lbs towing rating, was pretty underwhelming when it comes to towing. I've been really missing my former truck with the Hemi. Enter:
RAM 1500 Laramie Crew Cab 4x4 w/ Hemi V8

Tested and approved by sweeties.

Just picked up the new trailer! Observe how low it is. The height + tilt feature will help make it much easier to load the cars.

The 10"x30" approach plates. The driver side fender is hinged,.

Ultra Type 62 Trailer (alloy) wheels. 6 lug design increases its load capacity to 2800+ lbs!

Tilt in action.

I'm really done stocking tires. I mean it.

Now that I have a harness bar, I can move the GoPro mount to a better location.

Do you know the brand / model of that trailer? Looks like a good option.

Oh and I think I can give you a run for your money on tires lol. The current count is 9 wheels and 20 tires.
