I've been considering the Hurst, but after looking at an install article, both the Hurst and the stock shifter seem to be roughly the same length, so how does that work with making the throw shorter?

Also, does the 'blade' style shifter rod make the gears feel more 'positive'? My experience with the stock shifter is that going into each gear is a bit sloppy, and I only wish it were tighter. (For example: moving the stock shifter into each gear feels like a round bar going loosely into a square slot, if you get what I mean.) (EDIT: Shift Gates...that's what I was looking for)

Comparison pic is inside the following article:

The Hurst short shifter is awesome. I purchased the black knob with white numbers for my black interior. The shift gates feel so much more precise and quick to engage.

I didn't get the short throw.. I know.. I thought it was standard too, but it's an option.
I had this same shifter on my 2010 and really liked it.

Here's the link to Amazon's $50 rebate.

Has to be postmarked by Dec. 31st.

Install is really easy, hardest part is getting the damn car far enough off the ground..

I am positive that all 1le's come with a short throw ( not all of them are by Hurst, I think the last year of factory Hurst was 2013????) But I am 99.9% sure any 1le has the short throw. I am not opposed to being proven wrong however. Lol

I have a 2014 1SS that had the regular shifter and its throws were real long. I replaced it with a Hurst 44% shorter throw and its amazing!

My 1LE has the GM short throw and it is not a bad shifter just not as mechanical feeling as the Hurst. I love the Hurst but also love the shift feel of the mgw as well so lm torn as to which to install in the 1le

If you go to the chevy website to build a camaro, when you select the 1le package it does not include the short throw shifter. It is an addition $280 package that includes the "performance short throw shifter"

Do yourself a favor and private message this guy, NH-SS.

This is part of his thread about a great fix your Hurst will quickly need after use. A REAL bushing.
It is a super fix and I bought one for my SS.........he machines them.

Hurst Shifter Fix
I installed the Hurst shifter, after only a few hundred miles on it the side play was rediculous. I called Hurst and they sent out a "new" design bushing. I recieved it and it was the same as originally that came with the shifter. What I did to fix the problem was design and MFG my own. I made a split bushing out of oilite bronze (SEA841), I Incresed the side surface area ( to increse side load stability ) Turned the O.D for a +.001 slip fit. Bored the I.D to -.0005 under size then took the original locating pin and burnished the bore to the pin. After thousands of miles I still have virtually zero play in the shifter. It's a great product,.. just needs a different bushing material..

The improved bushing kit is a completely reworked stainless bushing with a special lining. It's such a tight fit that you have to use a press to assemble it... I'm guessing that it's similar to what you're describing. I'll know when I put it back together, I have 4 years under my belt with the standard hurst as a comparison. Should be fun..

I special ordered mine from Becky@Rodgers....I'm going to have to look at my build sheet because I'm pretty sure she told me it came as standard equipment with the 1LE, I'll look when I get home tonight or maybe Becky will chime in on this thread.

The 1LE I sat in at my local randy marion didn't have the hurst shifter but the shifter in it certainly felt miles shorter than my stock SS shifter

If it isn't a "short throw" shifter then I can't wait to get my Hurst installed

I had the Hurst Billet Plus short throw in my '11 SS. The delrin bushings wore out fast and the shifter got really sloppy. Sloppy as in the shifter handle would move over an inch side to side with the trans in gear and missing 3rd gear became easy to do.

I got the bushings NH-SS was selling and put them in since Hurst didn't have the "race bushing" out yet. The shifter tightened up to better than it was originally and stayed that way until I traded the car almost 3 years later.

Personally, I liked the feel of the Hurst shifter but apparently most people don't like to feel the trans go into gear.

The short throw in the 2014 at least the mid to late 2014-2015 is not a Hurst. The factory Hurst was not as short as the aftermarket 44% reduction shifter. I believe the factory short throw and factory Hurst is/was at 22% reduction from the non short throw. Not 100% positive though.

I can tell the difference between my non 1le aftermarket Hurst and factory stock 1LE short throw shifter.

There is some misinformation in this thread. For the record, ALL 1LEs COME WITH THE ZLI SHIFTER AS PART OF THE PACKAGE, WHICH IS A 22% REDUCTION OVER THE STANDARD CAMARO SHIFTER. The Hurst factory shifter "upgrade" was also a 22% reduction over the standard shifter. After the first few years, Chevy's "short shifter" upgrade was no longer Hurst, but it was comparable.

The Hurst AFTERMARKET is a 44% reduction over the STANDARD shifter. Obviously, this makes the reduction twice what the 1LE has over the standard Camaro shifter.

The MGW shifter has a 33% reduction over the standard shifter, putting it between the 1LE/ZL1/Factory Hurst and the aftermarket Hurst.

No, they don't.

My 1LE does not have a short throw.
My friend has a '12 2SS with the factory Short throw which as stated has about 25% reduction.

I promise you, you CAN get a 1LE without it.
