My thoughts on that are they have a course that allowed the 6th Gen SS to take advantage of its lighter weight and increased HP to turn faster lap times over a GEN 5 1LE. On the flip side, a different course that relied more on handling then speed might show the 5th Gen the better performer. Everything they have said is true. I think comparing it to a Boss is not so valid because it is not the prime target from Ford now.

This is some exciting news and I think GM is smart for starting the hype so early. I will sit back and watch from the comfort of my 5th Gen 1LE waiting to see if I will jump on a '17, wait for a ZL1 or keep what I have and add something else to the garage.
As far as the argument that it will or will not be vastly superior, I would imagine it will put down some impressive times/numbers compared to the 5Gen 1LE's. Not that ours are slow at all!

Until I see numbers it's a unicorn in my eyes and this is not the first time an automaker has made up statements that turned out to be untrue. Either way, gm is is making kickass cars and we are all better for it.

I am defiantly buying it when it comes out. No more modding the suspension or adding wheels and tires. This car is complete if you ask me. Just tint and the skip shift eliminator will do the trick. good job GM.

Definitely an upgrade over the base SS, I do like those 6 pot calipers. I'd bet the Recaros are pretty close to the ones in the ATS-V. 1LE with a v-6, really I don't think so. My only gripe is the gen 6 looks a little to mustangy. I'll be keeping my 15 1LE but will check one out once they hit the showroom.

I like almost everything about the '17 1LE that I saw and read about this morning. There's a thing or two I'd delete, so I don't like the "NO substitutions or deletions" clause mentioned in the article.

I'll go look at one when they hit the dealer lots, but I won't be trading my '15 for one. A 2016 optioned the way I'd like is too pricey for me, so I'm guessing the '17 1LE will be out of bounds for me too.

They shoulda offered an Auto too IMO. Keeping it manual will cut out some sales. But I guess it's true to the 1LE nature: For the 2%. Pure driving enjoyment! If it's a numbers game, I'm almost certain a car with the manual transmission would be slower in lap times under most conditions (unless your name is Randy Pobst), especially on longer sweeping tracks and oval speedways.

Motortrend has a head2head coming out soon with a 6th gen SS at streets of willow. We'll find out exactly what the new SS is capable of(5th gen 1LE -1:22.70 at streets of willow).

I fully expect the new 1LE to crush the 5th gen 1LE.

It absolutely HAS to. They wouldn't have released it yet if it didn't. How embarrassing would that be?

What I find interesting is that they put everything on the car that all the 5th gen track guys did to their 1LE's. 6 piston fronts, oil coolers, ect. GM is building the 1LE everyone wanted in the first place.

Exactly.

Even the 5th Gen 1LE was a great out of the box deal, at that price point. Sure it wasn't complete, but man was it cheap to buy, even if it meant a few extra out of pocket $$$ to upgrade brake cooling and oil.

Ultimately, the drum roll now is, with the added standard features like Magnetic Ride and 6 piston fronts, what the price will be as compared to before?

I probably missed it, but is the oil cooler significantly larger on the '17 1LE?

I can understand the logic of evolution, but in retrospect, look at what happened with newer STi's. Page 1 of initial pre- introduction posts on their forums were all wow_it_will_be superior. 2-3 years later, fast forward to today, it's a major thumbs down proposition even if quote on quote "superior", lol, many now long for the older ones.

Anything is possible, too early to tell, but chances are on your side, that you might be right, but don't bet life savings on it ; )

Very impressive to say the least . But if there is only $10000.00 diff to get the 17 ZL1 then that's the way to go .
