i like the front plate bracket. i think it helps with the design for states that require the front plate. what i don't like is the safety sticker on the rear bumper i hope there's a feature for that!

you take it off
problem solved

I brought this up in another thread but it seems to have been drowned out a bit. I've now seen several cars with Stickers as front plates, so as to not mess up the lines o the car. Wouldn't this be a viable option in states where a front plate is required?

I've registered cars in Indiana and Kentucky, and the only time I've ever had to have a car inspected was when I purchased it in a state different from where it was going to be registered. Aside from that, no inspections necessary in either state.

Front plates are a flat surface perfect for measuring speed with laser. A sticker following a curved bumper won't work anywhere near as well.

I'd do that....I'll have to get started on designing a decal for that purpose. Wouldn't be hard at all.

Well other then the man having a harder time sticking it to me (sorry Tag, overzealous policemen around here sometimes), is there any other legal reason why you can't? As said I've seen it around on several cars around here now, half of those where curved bumpers so around here it seems okay at least.

ispection? what is this? like forreal i'm clueless, i live in indiana and i get my vehicle's emmission tests and they check my car's computer and thats pretty much it, its free, the only thing i pay is when i renew my plates every year. what inspection does your car go through? like they check all the car? like the engine and stuff? it'd be funny if they ticketed for having a ripped seat!

In RI, there is a combined emissions and safety inspection. The checklist is something like this:
- operation of all safety-related lighting (parking/tail/brake/turn/head)
- brake wear and operations
- windshield and mirror cracks/visibility
- tire wear/condition
- windshield wipers
- seatbelts
- airbags
- other safety crap I don't remember
- tailpipe and computer emissions testing

That sounds about right for NJ as well. Though I'm not sure how they'd inspect the airbags...

They could check to make sure there's no signs of a deployment. And if there are, they make sure they've been replaced correctly. I'm sure the computer gives them a diagnostic reading as well.

Here in NY, they do all of that stuff except a tailpipe emissions test. Our 'emissions' test consists of letting a computer talk to the car, and make sure nothing's wrong with it. Not a bit of air is ever whiffed.

Annual inspections in Texas after the initial one that is good for two years. If you live anywhere near a large city, you get to do the emissions test too at the same time. Annual cost per vehicle is $39.75 right now plus the normal cost of renewing your registration ($50-$60, I think...I just pay it and don't bother to remember).

Emissions testing for 1996 and newer is done with a computer, 1995 and older is done with a tailpipe sniffer and a rolling drums dyno type device.

They even bother to check that your tinted windows adhere to the law for light transmission. That sucks!

I'm pretty sure they also check for front license plates, or at least that you have it in the vehicle. I'm tempted to put mine in the front windshield rather than on the bumper due to this court ruling.

In Vermont when you buy a new car, the car is inspected right there at the dealership, after that it is due an inspection every year just to make sure it is in good working condition. Inspections are documented on the vehicle in colored stickers put in the windshield and the color changes every year so they know when it is due just by looking.

In Idaho, no inspections other than an emissions test in various cities.
