02 ws6 v. 10 camaro
Hi, I have been following this forum for a while and it has been very helpful and informative of the 2010 camaro.
I am not trying to start another thread about which car is has better handling, ride etc... but I live in Long Island NY and it is impossible to find a dealer with a 2ss M6 to test drive one. I read through several threads talking about the handling and weight issues etc...and I know the 2010 is a heavy car. I had an 02 ws6 m6 (which was also a heavy car for its time) for 2.5 years (and 3.8 for 5 years prior that) and sold the ws6 in 04 when my first son was born and bought an 05 300c. Going from the ws6 to the 300c was different feeling as the 300c was smoother/more comfortable daily driver. I'm just trying to get a feel for the 2010. I see many people on this board had 4th gens and have 300c's. I would appreciate it if anyone can tell me their experience with the 2010 between the 4th gen or 300c. I was leaning heavily towards buying a low mile 02 ws6 again (love the looks, t-tops and much more fun to drive than the 300c). I sat in the 2010 camaro and it felt smaller, but i think it was because of the chop top and the windshield being right up to you as compared to the ws6. (I know what to expect if i bought a used 02 and don't want to regret my choice). As far as I can remember, the ws6 compared to the 300c, the acceleration of course was better in the ws6 and the steering was much firmer and direct, while the 300c steering is loose but direct. The ws6 was firmer but flat in the corner and the 300c has body roll but you do stay in control. I know and understand that one is a four door family car and the other a sports/muscle car. But it seems to me that based upon what people are saying about the 2010 camaro it would be in the middle ground between the two in terms of ride and firmness etc... I am worried if i ordered a 2ss it would feel more like a 2 door 300c like the challenger than closer to the ws6. Any comparisons between the cars of people who owned one or the other would be helpful and greatly appreciated. Also, anyone who had children in the 4th gen as compared to the 5th gen I would, like to hear there experience as well. My sons are 5 and 2 now. While I loved the my 02 I know the 2010 is safer for them as well. thanks in advance. |

Well I also owned an 05 300C and thats exactly what my Camaro feels like to me. A slightly smaller, 2 door version of it without the nice wood grain and leather seats. To me, the Camaro, Challenger, Charger and 300 are the same exact car in the way they feel to drive with different engines, and various luxury upgrades. You for sure want to test drive one first, I am not thrilled.

Well I'm a little biased towards the 4th gen. I drove a 2010 V6 and was not all that impressed. Nice car but overpriced to me. I have not driven a 2010 SS yet so I can't give that one a fair comparisson. I know this, there is going fast and feeling like you are going fast. Then there is going fast AND feeling like you are going fast. The 4th gen may be a tad slower but may give you the feel that you are going faster. I actually prefer that feel so I'm going to wait until I can test drive an SS before I give up my 4th gen.

Tough call and I hate to even use the word sloppy for the V8 but compared to the V6 it just seems that way. If you are looking for raw rugged power...400+HP V8. If you are looking for quick and nimble...300+HP V6. Can't go wrong either way. Both are awesome and have their places I love my 2SS V8, but if I was looking for a sports car daily driver, it would be the 2LT RS V6 without a doubt. With a little HP mod here and there for the V6 and with some added torque, it would be the ultmate due to its weight. As for the 2SS V8, I really do not care if it is a bit on the heavy side as it is my dream car. Good luck!! You will be pleased with either model. If all possible test drive them, even if you have to rent them from Avis..My wife and I don't have any kids, but the back seat is very small....almost non-existant. Helps on insurance though saying you have a back seat. Kids maybe fine back there. I am sure there are a lot of others who will verify this for you.

Here's my write up. I owned a 4th Gen for 9 years....from a V6 to a Z28 to an SS. One thing I will say....the 02 was lighter in the front end and turned a bit easier w/ less body roll. You can feel the weight in the 5th Gen. But, with aftermarket suspension parts, you would never notice the difference. Please...read the link above.... Also, kiddos are 4 and 2. BOTH need car seats. The L.A.T.C.H. system works perfectly and is easily accessable. Getting in and out is SO much easier in the 5th Gen for two reasons... 1. The seat belts in the 4th Gen were permanently attached to the front seats. So, when you pulled the seat forward, the belt went with it...making it harder to get in since there was a belt in the way. The 5th Gen has magnetic straps that easily release the belt so it gets out of the way now when you pull the seat forward....which brings me to my second point. 2. The lever to pull the seat forward is no longer all the way at the bottom of the seat making you lean all the way over....or making the person in the back seat have to curl up into the fetal position when they are already scruntched to try to release the seat. The release is now in the center of the back seat...making it easily accessable to anyone trying to pull the upper part of the seat forward. HUGE difference for kiddos. And...my 4 year old just asked me yesterday, "daddy? When am I going to get to ride in your car again?" Oh, it was awesome....

A lot of these comments are making me scared to take delivery of my 2SS....
I know i'll enjoy this car for more than just the power. Coming from a Avalanche im sure it'll be fast enough for me. |
