Appreciate the comment...you obviously know what I'm talking about.

I hear the whistling too on start up (not all the time) and it lasts for about 10 seconds. I have 3500 miles on the car. I never considered it to be a problem.

Otherwise the car is a FUN to drive!!!

Here's a better explanation for the ticking sound...

Quote:
The ticking noise is probably the main control solenoid on the high-pressure fuel pump. Like other direct-injection engines, the 3.6-liter in the CTS uses a low-pressure pump to send fuel from the gas tank to the engine and a second, high-pressure pump to send fuel to the injectors. In GM’s DI V-6, this pump is mechanically driven by the camshaft. The reason for the noise level is the extremely high pressures at which the direct-injection fuel system runs. While a port-injection system runs at about 40 psi, GM’s direct-injection system can run as high as 1740 psi. Turning a high-pressure flow like that on and off makes noise in a couple of ways. First, there’s a “water hammer” effect, such as when you abruptly turn off a sink faucet and then hear noises reverberate through the pipes in your house, only with a lot more force over a shorter period of time. Second, the solenoids that control the fuel flow, both at the high-pressure pump and in the injectors, need to be much stronger in a DI engine and are consequently noisier. To cope with that noise, GM engineers added more soundproofing to the DI engine around the fuel rails and in between the cylinder heads. And while the port-injection CTS in our Short Take was a little bit quieter than the DI Caddy at idle, we recently tested a DI Chevy Traverse that was quieter than the port-injection version of the same engine in our GMC Acadia road test.

Could it simple be the Alternator whistling as it is charging the battery?

The Alternator on my Olds would whistle when I would first start it up; however, the Alternator on my Truck doesn't.

Who knows...I didn't notice it today. The systems check says all is fine, so I'm not gonna worry about it.

I know exactly what you are talking about. Mine only does it the first time I turn the car on each day and it makes a high pitches whistling noise for probably 10-15 seconds and then stops. The hard part is that it ONLY does it the first time the car is turned on each day so it's hard to take it to the dealer to have them figure out what is wrong. I'm thinking about taking a video. If I do i'll post it on here. I have a 2LT/RS with just over 1400 miles on it.

ok you say show some respect but i have to say why come onto a thread thats talking about the whistling noise we first get when we start the car and start talking about some ticking noise....Show some respect and go start your own ticking noise thread so your feelings dont get hurt when someone makes a joke (which it obviously was)...

Maybe because she couldn't find that thread and thought we might know about that issue too. The joke wasn't all that funny obviously, and it was more your response to her that I quoted in my reply that I saw as a bit disrespectful and immature. Keep the conversation civil.
