Can someone please tell me how the SS owners are able to get around VATS? If we cant drop an updated V6 into our V6 cars, how do owners dump LS7s, LSAs, LS9s into the Camaro and get around it?

Im about to pipe up and spend close to 5k to rebuild my motor and it crushes my soul thinking about dumping 5k into my LLT and would rather drop a LFX in it if I cant get a V8 to operate

Hang tight. There just has to be a way to do this. Let's get some brains working on this forum because I know there are plenty of knowledgeable people who can help. I invested in a new 2014 engine and transmission, just betting it can be done!

I admire your ambitions. I too still want to do the V8 swap, but want to get the car running in the mean time without having to rebuild my v6.
I have sourced a brand new 2010 LLT for a great price so just trying to confirm and do my homework. Also still hoping that the motor is not sold.

I really am interested in this thread and can't wait til you complete it because it will be one badass build!

I can tell you this much. Rule out a v8 in a LLT because I know you would have to change all the wiring and body modules to make it work. Way too much $. Only hope is v6 conversion but I'm still months away from knowing. I know thats not what you want to hear . If only we could get some input from others.

Somewhere in here they tried a v8 swap. It failed miserably after a lot of $ and grief if I remember right.

You are absolutely correct! These late model Camaros are stuffed with security codes in each on board body control module. If any module is changed ( and there are many) the security recognizes it and defaults the vehicle useless. A secret special code in buried in the electronics from the factory and you cannot change it. It plays havoc when changing modules from one car to another. Most do not know this but GM began using Global A electrical architecture Security, which is not VATS, from 2010 to date in all Camaros. This is the nightmare for all of us mechanics and those who want to make changes in their vehicles, including changing engines and transmissions that were virgin to the vehicle. Complex and frustrating for most of us. The days of swaps are all but over and we are stuck with pretty much, what we've got. We are forced to buy another vehicle in order to get something different and we are AT THE MERCY OF THE DEALER! Certainly a money driven objective by the manufacturers.

I was aware of VATS issues but had not heard of the Global A. Will have to research that just for curiosity. On a personal note I think companies like GM will figure out that they are shooting themselves in the foot. After all a lot of ideas in the industry come from guys like you and even shade tree guys like me figuring things out. The big three catch on to what the mod crowd is doing and essentially we all are another R&D team for them. An example would be the simple mod to drill out the barb on the cam cover for the PCV system in 2014's and previous I think.

Now GM uses a larger orifice so it does not clog.
BTW I hear some guys put turbos on the v6 platform and make them v8 killers. Lol
Appreciate the info and good luck solving your issue, wished I was knowledgeable enough to help. I will keep the faith though.

Yes, you are correct. We do help them solve overlooked issues and that should be part of their considerations when implementing road blocks in vehicles. Oh, there will always be someone out there that will someway, somehow, figure ways around, at least some of those road blocks!!

I came into this thread to see what a LFX engine is?
Now I see that's the stock V6 engine for the '14 - '15 Camaro's
Good Luck to you.
I've wanted a 2010 Synergy Green Camaro ever since I saw one.

This^^^ thats why when my LLT blew I went with the new crate motor with a 3yr 100k warranty. Although I might be in search of a SGM V8 next year.
