Yes it rattles in 2nd and 4th, or any gear with about 75% power input or more. Now, the rattles aren't bothersome to me, but they may be to you. The kit does come with 2 small pieces of dynamat and instructions on where to place it in the shifter setup to reduce vibration/noise, but its not recommended, as it seems that it would make the fastener connections "weaker". The throw is so much different that on the first test drive, the 1-2 shift kept throwing me off, because where I would be in neutral with the stock shifter, I was now in second gear, and same for every shift thereafter 2-3 3-4 etc. Only took a day to get used to, but it is definitely a short throw now.

I love my hurst, I ran the stock shift knob for a few months but this past weekend replaced it with the classic hurst ball. I like the feel and position of it much better...

Tighten the two bolts, do not use black dynamat as gaskets. No noise and vibration when I wrap the black dynamat insulation around the two bolts.

I've been happy with my aftermarket Hurst after I upgraded the bushings and added a strip of dynamat around the outside of the pin and clips which eliminated my rattle.

Anyone got pics of their new shifters? The suede is coming apart on mine with about 42k miles

I put my Hurst in over the winter, actually did a full write up on here with pics.
The stock short throw in the 1LE can hardly be called a short throw at all, it looks almost exactly like the stock shifter. The stock bushings (if you want to call them that) are total crap. The Hurst and MGW are light years better than stock. I love the mechanical feel. Some sound does creep through the stick, but if that kind of thing bothers you, you bought the wrong car and you need to upgrade your exhaust. I ran the stock knob for a while and then switched to the Hurst stick and ball. I like the Hurst a lot better but that's personal preference. If you're going to get in there and do the short throw, might as well put on the skip shift eliminator while you have things opened up. |

Not to high jack but I am interested in this trans fluid thing. I always though it had to be atf. Are people running gear oil with the trans cooler? I figured that's why the atf was needed

The only reason I can think of for running ATF in a manual transmission would be for a small-fraction-of-a-mpg benefit. Otherwise I'd expect to see GM Synchromesh fluid called for.

You people scare me! Manual Transmission Fluid is different for the V6 (Gear oil) and V8(MTF). Please read your manual.
GM Synchromesh is not used in the 1lE. GM MTF 88861800(US) / 88861801(CAN). Replaced the old Dexron III which is is an ATF -yes this is used in manual transmissions as well. |

I love this OEM shifter, 100 x better than my OEM 2010 shifter.

I'm not really a fan of short throw shifters...in any car. I am interested in replacing the bushings though. Where can I find them? I did shifter bushings on my EVO and loved them. Getting rid of any slack would be great. I may end up changing out the shift knob just to preserve the suede on my factory knob.
