GM makes a baffle ( GM's name not mine for the part ) goes right in the radiator to direct the water off both sides. Part#22828415 Pops right in to the radiator top section About $32.00.

I've decided to try to make a warning system for my turbo oil scavenge pump. Just in case the pump ever stops I'll know about it. I don't worry about it going out while at idle or cruising around because I would instantly notice the giant smoke screen behind the car. What I do worry about is the pump failing in the middle of a quarter mile run while running the car at full boost. I'm not sure if the intake side of the turbo can put oil into the charge pipes or not. At idle it just fills the exhaust but I just don't know about when under high boost. I've asked a lot of people and have never really got a definitive answer. So I figure better safe than sorry.

I bought an adjustable pressure sensor(hobbs switch) from Napa and some fittings to put it right before the scavenge pump in between the pump and turbos. I would imagine those return lines should have a little suction to them when the pump is running. If the pump ever fails while the engine is running it should build pressure in the return lines and close the switch. Now I just have to decide what to control with the switch. I could either hook it to a warning light or some sort of buzzer or both.

I would imagine youd get a quicker more reliable warning if you used the hobbs switch on the pressure side of the scavenge pump. Oil Out of the turbos is probably under less presure than out of the scavenge pump.

I thought about setting it up that way but I'm not sure how much pressure there would be on that side of the pump as the hose is large and is wide open to the valve cover. There would be flow but idk how much pressure. I have 25psi oil pressure going to the turbos so I figured If the scavenge pump fails and oil starts to back up into the turbos, it will build at least a few psi of pressure. Plus this way the light/buzzer would never come on unless there was a failure. If I wired it after the pump and set off the light/buzzer when pressure stops then I would have to hear the buzzer when keys on but not running. I haven't started the car yet so this is all theory. If it doesn't work like I'm thinking then I'll have to play around with it.

I added another safety feature today. I put a fitting in each side of the intercooler with removable caps. This way I can remove the caps every so often and make sure I'm not collecting oil again. This will be a quick easy way to check without removing my bumper and boost piping. Maybe it's not needed but it will make me sleep better at night.

I started up the new engine last night. Everything looked and sounded good. Hopefully I can get it out on the road today and do a good break in on the rings. Then call GPI and setup a time for tuning.

The end is near!!

Well I took it out and did a few pulls and decells to try to get a good seat on the rings. Nothing blew up so that is good. Only seeing about 12 inches of vacuum at idle though, seems like I have a leak somewhere. I will have to try to figure that out. Timing chains being off a tooth could cause that but I don't even want to think about that possibility lol. I can't imagine they would be off though with how anal I was about them and all the research I did. But still I did it without the special tools and there is no way to recheck your marks after turning them so it's definitely in the back of my mind.

Felt good to be behind the wheel again though!!
