A 3200 converter with a TH400 in a 5th gen.....and only 3.45's? Back in the day, with a 400 and a heavy car....you would run a 4.56 gear and shift at 6500-7500.

Id say your car is not setup, drivetrain wise, to run its potential.

You need more gear and higher shift points. I'm at 633RWHP with the 4L running 3.91 gear shifting at 6700 rpms.

You should be trapping in the high 120 to 130 mph range. With the 3.91 gear I trap mid 130s. You are losing to much time on the bottom 60' should be low 1.50 1/8 in the high 6s not mid 7s

How good is the converter? Wrong converter for the setup will kill the car also.

I don't know much about converters to tell you. It do cut that 1.6 60ft launching at 3k rpm. I believe can stall it up to 4k. I just needed a baseline. I'm hoping to get it tuned soon.

If you are former stick you could install a 2 step too.

Good rule of them on shifting... If you make peak HP at say 6500 with a tight converter like that, you might end up wanting to shift PAST the peak so the RPMs drop to a good part of your powerband.

The 3200 converter with the S/C is fine. Its the shift point that way to low. And with only 613rwhp you need more gear with the th400. 0r more H/P.

OP I see your running a tci converter. Try a real one it may help. tci is junk I had nothing but problems with them. I have been using FTI in two different cars for the passed 5 year.

How much does the tune get affected from the different trans/converter? Does the shift points make that big of a difference between trapping 116 and 130mph?

I've heard good and bad things from the converter. I figured I'll give it a shot since its already in there. Here is another video of a 20mph pull so yall can see where it's shifting.

You're never at max boost so you are never making max power shifting that low in the rpm range. Look at your last dyno graph and see how much power you're loosing by shifting that early. Plus your converter isn't locking up but a couple of seconds that entire pass, if that long depending on how far your rpm's drop during each shift.

I'd bet your loosing a full second just on the trans tune.

X2 Your mph is low in the 1/8. You should be over 100.

How do you know that my converter isn't locking up but a couple of seconds? As soon as y'all say converter my mind goes blank lol. Is there a way to lock it up? I thought I couldn't tune my transmission? It's a super Street fighter tranny

No way to "tune" or lock up a conventional TH400. Take it back to the track and raise your shift point to 6500RPM or so and then report back. Start saving up for more gear and a better converter. That could be a winter project, but you can certainly enjoy the car the way it is right now...

Is the trans a fmvb or does it auto shift?
