Well the question is why getting the Camaro worked on? You if tuned for headers which is what should have been done with headers then yes you need to reflash in the stock tune. Your tuner should have a file that he saved of a stock tune/ be able to return it to stock, or you could get one and its reading those codes because it has become accustomed to the larger air flow or headers. Are you getting rid of the Camaro? A CEL is a common side effect from installing headers as the distance to the o2 censors changes causing delayed response codes for the fronts, and the rear sensors needing to be turned off in the tune: then a good AFR set up, change of the thermostat and a change in the fan settings, ditching torque management all can be done with a tune and change the car ,etc ,etc.

A good tune even on a handheld usually has these options to change the car with even being able to load ones designed for your mods if you work with places, like say Janetty or Tamp Tuning or Florida speeds? Some others I have heard of over time, check with major places is what most do. SO you need to know what is in your tune if it was modified.

from his earlier threads... he bought used car with headers and CEL on and guy said he never had it tuned. He's trying to fix it by putting on stock headers.

do you have the stock catalytic converters? or did he also put on high flow cats??

if not tuned and has stock cats, it should be ok if you reset everything. if not, cats might not be stock or damaged.

did the shop reset the codes or just read them?? reset and find out if codes go away... hopefully they do.

Yep, he was looking for some locals to do it. Shops had quoted him what seemed like a lot for this. Strange though that he mentioned selling the headers to whoever did the work. I would think that a custom shop might do this and he could actually have gotten the work done and walked away with some cash.

Either way, if everything is back to stock now, whoever did the job should have cleared the code then, but maybe that wasn't possible. Either way, if everything is in order and working properly, the cel should go off on it's own. It may something like 40 start cycles for an emission code. Better to just clear it, and see if comes back on though.

The car wasn't tuned, the cel came on after the after market headers were installed, I thought it would turn off after I put the stock headers back in

May be the CATs are bad. It should turn the cel off on itself, when the stock CATs are re-installed. Take it to the dealer, CATs are warranty for 8 years/ 80k miles.

I love NY and CA. A bt scanner is about $20.

If the code does not turn off by itself. I don't think battery disconnect or reset by the code reader will do the trick. The previous owner may have a turn, or bad CAT. It is too bad he brought the car with issue. Not only he has to repair it blindly, he also cannot get state inspection and register the car.

if everything is stock and the light won't go out, you might want to get new oxygen sensors. they might have been damaged from the headers.

you can get them from places like gmpartsdirect.com and save a few bucks. check amazon also

I think these are the P/N's... but double check

12617332 Front (need 2) - $78/EA GMPARTSDIRECT
12609457 Rear (need 2) - $44/EA GMPARTSDIRECT (+ SHIPPING)

now if you want to save a few bucks... these show up as being the correct Bosch parts.. and show up as being correct for your vehicle on Amazon.
15282 - upstream (front, need 2) - $26/ea AMAZON
15698 - downstream (rear, need 2) - $25/ea AMAZON

Assuming that all that all the parts are still good, cats and o2 sensors, it will, but not immediately. I am not sure about these cars, but for example, on my '96 Vette, which was the first year for OBDII, an emission code would take 40 start cycles with successful system check before it would reset.

Like some have said, you can try disconnecting the negative cable on the battery, or get a scanner that can erase trouble codes, they're not that expensive, and come in handy.

Oh, is it a haggle to get new cats from them? The guy that did the installation did say the cats looked to be in good shape though.
