I'm curious on the CNC head options as well. BTR utilizes a CNC GM Performance Head with their valve train kit.

My personal opinion from all that I've read is that the GMPP heads are good if you are on a budget but they give up a little velocity and aren't the best option. There are too many aftermarket CNC heads to stick with the GM PP heads.

I was looking at the Lingenfelter heads as they appear to be about $1500 for a complete set, but not sold on them.

The GMPP heads aren't bad they just aren't the best either. They have a place and their price point is their main draw. I believe BTR preps heads too.

The lingenfelter site gives you design parameters, but I didn't see any estimated hp numbers. Did you know anything giving a round about? I suppose that's tied a lot of the cam you're running though...

Here I found it. The only problem is I think it should have been on a stock LS3 for more realistic numbers... http://www.hotrod.com/articles/hrdp-...er-heads-test/

I've been wondering about heads. New to the car. Thought stock power would be plenty (and it is I guess) but the heavy car can use more.
What about TrickFlow package with headers? I am wondering how that would compare to ported LS3 heads? Or TF compared to others? I like the idea of adding 100rwhp, and I'm not interested in FI. I don't see a need for the catback though, hopefully the NPP is good enough. I also see some value in keeping the stock LS3 heads on the shelf if I need them for whatever reason. At 1k+ for porting, with not as good results as aftermarket (I assume?)...I know you pay a bit more for aftermarket, but not astronomically more, and you're getting the fullly built heads and cam with it.... But if ported LS3 heads get you 95% of TF, at 50% of the cost then maybe it's worth it. Last edited by bkevind; 08-20-2016 at 03:09 PM. |

I don't recommend aftermarket castings until strokers are involved.

As I understand it, the big plus of going aftermarket is that you can mill the heads and still run big cams and still have great PTV clearance. So you gain free hp with higher CR and you can run bigger cam(more hp) and its easier to drive with a higher CR. Its all win, but at a price..

Speaking of milling the heads, what's the factors involved in determining how much you can mill them? I would assume cam specs, and piston cc would be the minimum to look at. What's the standard amount you can mill on a stock setup?
