The dealer can say anything he she or it wants to say. With precious few exceptions, they'll lie to your face when you buy, there's no reason they wouldn't lie to your face and tell you anything they think will pressure you to do what they want when you sell to them.

They effectively have no accountability in that regard.

...What about holes from a roll-bar in the "frame" (not the "body") resulting in frame damage..??

I am with you. There is no way I don't think this weakens the frame. I would be terrified to be terrified to take the roll bar out of our '69......I think it might twist up like a pretzel!

Why was the OP looking for rear carpet and plastic trim back in May? Covering over the holes from the roll cage is my guess. Something sounds suspect here.

What sounds suspect here? I have not read anything that the Op is denying or admitting anything. Even "if" the Op knew about the roll cage he/she needs to disclose the car had one? Would you have to disclose if you have had a tune in your car or long tubes? That means 90 percent of the cars here would never be able to trade their cars into dealers if they needed to disclose anything.

Seems ironic to me. Unless other wise stated, cars are sold as is.

Why should a dealer get ripped off anymore than anyone else?
If this was a dealer that sold this car to the OP The Dude would be starting a petition and the pitchforks and tourchs would be coming out. Shady is shady no matter who it is.

Sorry OP, but you should have to buy that butcher job back if you didn't disclose what it is.
You aren't only screwing the dealer, but quite possibility a potential buyer. Not sure how some people sleep at night.
This x1,000.

Anybody defending OP is lying if they say they would be OK buying a car then finding out it had been a highly modified race car which had been put back to stock with the intention of hiding that fact.

And "buyer beware" is not a carte blanche excuse to try to screw or deceive people. We are becoming a society where "getting over on someone" is like a new game and if you do you somehow win. It's sad.

California has a "no cooling off period' that buyers must acknowledge and sign upon purchase of a vehicle. wouldn't that also apply to a dealership buying your car?

OP, have you talked to an attorney yet? I like C5 but I would be asking an atty, and moving on.

Could you imagine paying 25 grand or so for what was said to be a slightly used local trade in and once you get your baby home you see signs that it was actually not a daily driver but a closer look revealed it was a full tilt race car and the questions start going through your mind wondering if this car was whipped on and if high performance mods have shortened the life expectancy or vital safety comprised of the car you plan to drive your family in for the next 5+ years. I know if I was that buyer I'd be furious and be taking it back to the dealer because it was misrepresented to me .now imagine *if the roles were reversed* everybody commenting on here would be up in arms calling the dealer every name in the book for being immoral and unethical for not disclosing that info

Legally you only are required to disclose flood damage, rebuilt or salvage title when you sell a car. If you sold them a shoddy car you stripped and it's unsafe, let your conscience guide you...

What he said, small things like a catch can or a CAI, I could overlook but a roll cage, car heavily modded then an attempt to restore to original condition with the sole purpose of deceiving the buyer whoever it is. Just is not cool. This is part of the reason I bought a new 2015 right when the 2016's came out. Was worth an extra few thousand to me to know I was not getting someone's toy.

Here is a picture of Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer, looking at the underside of a Gen5 Camaro ...
- Note the area where a roll bar would likely be attached is all unibody with many holes from the factory.
- No body on frame construction in this area of the car.
- There are a couple dozen factory holes visible just in this one snapshot.
- Some of the large couple inch diameter holes have plastic plugs in them that go clear through to passenger compartment.

The Camaro roof also adds a lot to the solid structure of the Camaro.
For the Camaro convertible the factory actually does add frame to this underside area, but not on the coupe.
Maybe OP can get Al to give his seal-of-approval on the sale ;-)
