I've never read my warranty guide, but the point is mute to me anyway, cam, spray, hardened axles, custom tune, BMR trailing Arms = no warranty.

What ever you do never start your Camaro. Do not sit in it. Do not wash it. DO NOT TAKE PICTURES OF IT.

Any of the above will VOID YOUR WARRANTY!!!!

We can not use the black box for this reason. Its a privacy matter. Like tapping your phone. The police need special permission to obtain the info in accident situations. We can not go into it to deny warranty. Yes, we can read alot of info in real time, yes we can retrieve codes stored in memory, yes we can take a snap shot of a certain problem but CAN NOT use the black box against you!

Thanks
I know that some cars have counters ( not really black boxes per se ) that track certain things.

Top speed, red line rev counts, number of times launch control is used, things like that.

So I wouldnt necessarily dismiss it as TOTAL nonsense. And if the camaro has these you can bet they
will be used in some cases as arguments against warranty.

Porsche has been doing it for a long time.

FYI - GM set your top speed limiter to 155.

If they didn't expect you to try to go there they would have set it lower, right?

For example, a new Escalade is set at 105.

When you really think of it, capability of 155 mph in a car at this price point is out of this world, I had mine up passing a long string of cars on a clear road to 130, didn't even realize it, felt stable as a rock.

Anything over 95 in a 70 Chevelle, your ass is puckering a little, and for God sakes don't try to turn it at speed......LOL

155 is most likely the speed limit in which tires and/or aerodynamics become a safety issue.

I think Manufacturers expect that the car wil operate at what ever is the legal speed in that country and in the US most definitely dont EXPECT you to regularly drive at the limit.

Now from a warranty standpoint SOME vehicles may have support from the maker if tracked and something fails but even then it is not expected that you will drive at the limit.

There is absolutely a black box- I believe since OBD2 there's been a box. I don't believe they can use the box to void your warranty but it does save engine data which the technicians can use to find issues. I think this guy was trying to scare you though probably because your questions led them to believe you were heading straight from the showroom to a vortech dealer to laguna seca.

yep, I am guessing that aerodynamics/handling on the camaro more than tires is what was worrying GM here with the speed limit set to 155. I won't be running mine up to 155 but I would be kind of interested in knowing what the real top limit of the camaro is.

Not the tires for sure... The "Z" rating is a minimum rating that is 180 Mph. It may also be for those that aren't able to police themselves ....

I think they ran one up to 180 or so at Daytona.

If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bs. That's what was going on here.

If on-star can E.mail me my tire pressure than I'm sure they have a blackbox. Like someone else stated I have heard it only records the last 10-15 secs. From what I've been told this is in case you have a wreck and try stating it was something faulty on G.M.'s part that caused you to wreck they can go back and look and see if you was doing something stupid or it truely is a faulty product. This is to save there buts so you can't sue the hell out of them. It's more or less to cover there azzes in case of something tragic happening. Of course this is just stuff I have heard. I'm no black box specialist. But when I was told this it did seem very believable!
