Help with Vibration
Car starts a light vibration in the steering wheel at 30-35 and contiues as speed increases. They have changed out a set of tires already. It has the 20" polished rims. at 74-77 it is anoeying as can be. drove another members SS and it was smooth as glass. I guess you can see in the sig mine is a 2ltrs. Steering wheel goes up and down. I had my GPS mounted to the windshield on a recent trip and at hwy speeds it moved so much it was hard to read.
Thanks for any input. Steve

Ok, since they have already changed out the tires, we can probably safely assume that they did a high-speed re-balance and all is good. Since you are feeling it in the steering wheel, next to check would be the front suspension and steering components. IMO, steering wheel bouncing up and down, either wheel balance or suspension.

I had the same problem. All suspension and drive train components were in good shape. The dealer force ballanced the wheels and it when away. Force ballancing apparently simulates the load of the car on the wheels when it is ballanced.

My car does the same thing if I take off in it early in the morning, now that the nightime temp has been getting down to 50 degrees. It's like the tires are flat spotted from sitting all night. Once I go a couple of miles and watch the tire pressure come up a couple of pounds it is gone for the rest of the day.

I would have the tires balanced again. The factory balance on mine was done with counter balance on every tire. Meaning whoever balanced them missed the first time and had to add weight on the opposite side to make up for it. Instead of pulling the weights and redoing it.That always aggravates me but I see it allot.
Another thing is these cars come with Summer only tires. As it gets colder there will be allot more people with vibrations an traction complaints. |

Thanks for all the input! Everything helps. The vibration does not go away after it warms up. Tire pressures stay good I monitor from the cockpit while driving. They use a road force balencer. Next they are running a vibration meter from GM. My dealer has never used it so another dealer is coming over saturday to help with that. They started a case with GM and thats what they wanted next? The sticker says 36psi for the 20" Pirelli's. What are you all running?
Thaks Steve

I do still experience a small vibration untill I get the tires hot. Unfortunatly, my car in the garage more than the road.
My pressure is curently 35psi. The OnStar monitoring that emails when there is an issue also recommends 36psi. Good Luck. |
