Vin you got to go back and read the previous. The radiator is out of his 07 Impala SS. But then he could have a CC on that one to.

Did you buy it used? Maybe some genius towed the car once by wrapping a chain around just below the radiator cap...

Seriously, you might be right about defective part if there was some problem during the casting or something - maybe wrong mix of materials or temperature or whatever.

Yea, shes more than a little out of warranty at this point, 10 years old and 132k miles. And no catch-can - gasp! Poor car is relegated to winter rat duties - first time it'll have seen snow/salt is this year. But it's just an Impala (I keep telling myself as a sacrifice a pristine car to those terrible elements).

That radiator looks like one of ours. I asked an engineer and he said there are a few things that could have caused a weakness, from to much moisture in the raw plasic, causing it to be brittle, to unusual hold down forces during the clinch assembly process. These issues are usually caught in the Mass-Spectrometer helium leak test.

Interesting. If you guys want it for analysis, I still have it, we can find a way to get it in your hands. Definitely something weird with it.

Thanks, but probably not. It lasted 9 years, and a lot has changed or been improved since. If it was from a new car under warranty it would have come back to us through the warranty repair process.

Makes sense. Obviously it wasn't a major defect, it held together for 132,000 miles over 10 years. Good excuse to get that coolant flush I was planning on done. Thanks for the insight on what might have been - just interesting to consider.

way too much effort. just do what I do and trade your winter beater in every year for a new one lol. Traded the 2016 base cruze for a 2017 loaded cruze. really the only reason I did it was because it didn't cost me anything to upgrade because of the deals Chevy is running right now.

And when you do, hit me up for a Friends and Family discount. Every GM (and GMCH) employee can give one out every month.
I can have it in your inbox in a matter of minutes, so don't mention it to the salesperson until late in the deal unless they ask. (Dealers around here ask you right away so they don't cut their own throat on the trade-in values.) Give me a heads-up before you go so I will watch for your contact. All I need is your email address, date of birth, and zip code.
Btw, I don't get anything but happy friends for doing it, which is more than enough!
