Started riding dirt bikes when I was 10 so the gas clutch thing was easy. Bought a manual truck when I was 17 and drove manuals for over 20 years until I bought a full size truck in 2004. Swore I would never go back to stick again until I found my 1LE. Didn't realize how much I missed driving a manual car.

I think the newer generations just don't get it. Everything is supposed to be easy. It is kind of like playing those plastic guitars on Rockband, a few buttons to memorize, no modes, scales, chords, tuneings, pedals, amp settings, amp tubes, or even what key the song is in. The manual, to the few who don't worry about the ultimate performance in a straight line, it is about total control and mastery of what they are doing, its playing in concert with a real instrument, that requires a particular feel and skill set. Can an auto be faster? Absolutely, but then again so could a computer controlled car with no driver. Its about keeping an analog kind of experience.

I have had a 50/50 mix of auto/man, trucks and cars. I really was on the fence getting the Camaro in manual. The man had a NPP exhaust and I really liked the sound. I am glad I got it. The clutch is easy enough to push in and it will never tire you out. Not like a truck I had with no hydraulic actuation. That would ware you out in stop and go driving to the point you would have to pull over and rest your leg.

Pro Stock cars use a Liberty or G-Force 5 speed transmission. Funny Cars and Top Fuel have one forward and a reverse gear. They have multi-disk clutches that progressively lockup. They do, but it is only used when starting from a dead stop or when they spin. It is a button on the steering wheel and application is configured before the race begins. They have 8 speed transmissions controlled with paddles. Indy cars use a similar set-up.

Even though today's autos are much better, I am one of them stubborn ones who will insist on a manual.

I was at that point right before I picked up my 5th gen. I looked at a bunch of YouTube videos, and I had a lesson before picking up my manual 5th gen. Practice makes perfect with driving a manual; After good practice it will seem natural to you.

With the TR6060 in my 1LE and the Rev Match M7 in my Stingray, you can pretend all you want, but I wouldn't trade my manuals for autos for a minute. With that said, those are summer/weekend cars. I'd drive off a cliff if I had to sit in stop and go traffic 5 days a week heading to client meetings in anything but an auto. On the weekends though...

Love driving a manual, even in traffic... especially a V8 Camaro...
Yes I know how!
