4th gens looked pretty good but a 15 year old musclecar would eat their lunch in a straight line.for the time they were pretty cool though.

3RD, Just another boxy 80s car. 4th was tolerable with certain trim packages. 6th is pretty awful looking too. 1st, is the best. I have owned a 2nd and 5th gen.

Over the years I've had a 2nd gen Trans am, 3rd gen Z28 and a 4th gen firebird convertible. Loved the 1st two but had a love/hate with the 4th gen. Loved the looks of the Pontiac convertible but the car was a PoS. I hated the looks of the 4th gen Chevys too.

Now this 5th gen is a whole new animal, love my 2010!

Just another boxy '80's car? We're talking about Camaros, not Fox body Mustangs.

Wow - mind blown! Never saw that until now - but the similarities are striking! Gonna finish reading the posted, then I'll share my thoughts.

How so? 4th Gens were much to look at, but they were pretty quick stock, and very easily modified, especially the LS1 cars. I don't think too many cars from 1978 would be giving them a run for their money in a straight line, or the twisties.

I'll run the generations, ranking from favorite to least.

2nd Generation - If I could have my pick I'd have a early 70's split bumper Z/28 over any other. Post 73 I'm not as into, they can look good, but they need a lot more help.

3rd Generation - I popped my Camaro cherry in my late teens with an L98 IROC. Still one of my favorite body styles of all time. The base model cars definitely don't look as good without the ground effects - although if they are lowered they are pretty fresh - I had an '86 Sport Coupe for Auto-x that looked pretty sharp.

1st Generation - Love the way these car looks. I think I would rank them higher, but I'm not sure I'd want to own one, as they are so popular at car shows. There are a lot of cars may or may not see, but you can almost be sure you'll see a whole bunch of 1st Gens. My wife would argue that this is the best generation...

5th Generation - I've got one, I like it a lot. I don't love the way it looks, I'm satisfied with it. If I could afford to drop the drive-train in a 2nd Gen, and bring the rest of the car up to the level of quality that the 5th Gen has - I'd rather have that. It's performance and build quality are the best of any Camaro I've owned (this is my 4th) - and it score a lot of points for that. But it's not my favorite to look at.

6th Generation - same feelings as above. Performance beast - amazing car. Too soon to gauge really - but I think it looks pretty good.

4th Generation - I owned a 1996 Z/28 M6 Convertible. Red with a tan top. It was not my favorite car to look at - I bought it because it drove great. It made a 13.6 @ 103mph with just a cold air intake, which was quick for me at the time. It handled decently, and that T56 was the best manual gearbox I've ever had. (I wish my TR6060 performed that nice). They just arn't much too look at. The big exception here is the '98-02 WS6. That car, with the full GFX, is a great looking machine. You can see the 4th gen in it, but it's well hidden behind some really muscular/athletic styling. It shows, because a good low miles, clean on will still fetch some really good money even this day in age.

My love for Camaros started with the 4th gen, I dislike the 3rd gens, ugly and super underpowered

my bad...i guess my 66 tempest was older than that by then.running a 400 with judge intake and carb, headers, cam and modded turbo 400 i didnt get too much competition from the IROC zs back in the day,at least in a straight line.the later WS6s would give me a good run though.i drove one at a GM open house and was impressed with it.

Yea - I'd agree that the late 60's muscle cars were pretty potent stock, and were very easy to get big performance from. The late 70's on the other hand, were a pretty sad time for cars in general.

I was always a chevelle/Elky guy, had many, all SS396 cars. I bought my first Camaro for my wife, a plain Jane 67 convert, Nantucket blue. Of all the cars I owned, (and I am of a certain age) I think I got the most attention with that car. I then bought a 97 SS Anniversary car and found out what handling was about. I then bought a 98 SS so I had the last LT-1 and the first LS-1. I have now had my 2010 IOM SS for about a year and have made the total conversion...So I would rank them: 5th, 4th, 1st, 2nd, then turd.

I like all Camaro generations. I'm not huge on the 2nd gens, but I love the late 70's Trans Ams.

I owned a 3rd and a 4th gen Camaro, and loved them both. Someday soon I will own a 5th gen.

I've had a couple 3rd's, a, 4th, and currently a 5th. The 1988 WS6 version of the 3rd gen was light, low, and pretty awesome handler in stock form. Then my dad got a 1994 TA and it was very boaty, and felt heavier. I modded the crap out of a 1996 TA 700hp supercharged, never had to change anything on the suspension axle, body, no wheelhop. Now the 5th gen, it's even heavier than that, and has nasty wheel hop, also have supercharger on it, but it has allot of space under the good = easy to work on. Quality wise the 5th gen is best by far, the 3rd gen was the worst, 4th gen pretty bad too. If looks didnt matter I would take a 5th gen drivetrain and put it in a 3rd gen body.

For me i have preferred the 70-73, 2010-13, 69. I had two 4th gen f bodies and a 3rd gen. Never again would i do that. Those 2 generations seemed off to me.
