the m3 is a nice little sports coupe but the ridiculous price makes this comparision Bull.

The Camaro SS is 31 grand. Whats the M3 ? 55 grand?

I'd choose the camaro SS any day of the week if I were laying out the cash.

In fact the new camaro ss is so hot...if I really had to have a car that was even faster...A 6 grand supercharger would be an easy way to make it happen.

When the camaro SS is out of warranty you won't have to put a second mortgage on the house to pay for the repair bills.. and that alone makes the camaro SS my personal choice.

Same reason why I buy vettes.. Repair costs if they even crop up are inexpensive..

Say that about the Bimmer and your dreaming.. Repairs on a higher mileage bimmer are as ridiculous as its MSRP.

Well, coming from someone who has driven both, I own a ls3 SS and my dad has a e92 m3 coupe 6 speed. The m3 is def. more refined and is a blast to drive. It loves to rev and the build quality is amazing. My SS is also tons of fun but it's a different beast! More rugged, just brute power. Performance numbers are pretty equal but are 2 totally different cars. Great in their own way, but just depends how deep your wallets are!

Guys, help me out here. What is the accepted 0-60 time for the Camaro SS. I thought it was 4.9 seconds at its BEST. The M3 can easily pull around 4.5.

Tell me if I'm wrong!

The Automatic SS can pull a 4.6, pretty close for an extra $14,000.

Thank you! This is a BIG deal to me. Seriously, this is what I needed to hear. I'm probablybuying a camaro now. I thought they were not faster than 5 seconds!

The BMW M3 and Porsche 911 are not straight line cars, if all your worried about is 0-60 times than your right in looking at American (and Maybe Japanese AWD) cars.

??

The new M3 pulls ~.95gs on the skidpad, The Camaro can pull .92...pretty darn close if you ask me, especially for a 20 grand difference in price. If you do something about that understeer, this car is more than ready to kick a LOT of car's a$$es.

EDIT: I can only find numbers on the 911 Carrera S, but even that is .97g. I suppose this discussion is stock for stock...but if you call Pedders or Pfadt, you can have a 1.00+g Camaro that handles like a miracle on wheels for ~$3000.

The new M3's certainly look nice, but for the price, the performance is "meh."

My point is that to compare the 0-60 times of a 911/M3 to a Camaro is to compare the WORST thing the German cars do to the BEST thing the Camaro does.

The M3 and 911 are more about providing a thrilling drive while being in the highest class of quality... They put up great numbers too. M3's post high 12's all day long while having 10 less hp, and over 100lb/ft less...

And if you want a test that accurately depicts the handling abilities of a car at its limits you are going to want a slalom test, not a skidpad test. The M3, for instance, set a Slalom test record for a mass production car.

Every major article I've seen on the Camaro SS puts the skidpad at around .87-.88. Where are you getting .92?

So? That point is meaningless. The OP asked: M3 vs Camaro.

It's out there. Average skidpad numbers are something like .9. I used the times for both cars from the first magazine to found in google search.

And as for slalom, I believe the Camaro moves through the cones at 69.xx mph. No, not 75, like the M3...but that ain't too shabby for all the deficiencies the Camaro suffers vs the BMW.

True... but Camaro vs. M3 shouldn't be limited to 0-60
