if you take off the intake and run the engine, youll hear the whistling constantly. Thats what the sound chambers on the stock intake are for; to supress the whistle/whoosh. You probably didnt hear it until now cause the bigger TB gave a little more sound than the stock.

Many people think the whistling/whoosh sound is awesome... not my cup of tea though

Thanks for the reply. That makes me feel a bit better. Do you have the CAI brand intake by any chance?

By the way...

Its not necessarily the fact that the noise is bothering me, its just not what I was expecting which is why I wanted to poll the group...

Will has stated that the 80 would benifit from some porting. You could email Ruben at SoCal porting, or if your handy with a die grinder, you can watch some you tube vids and give it a whirl, if your feeling brave, haha. I plan on porting mine in mid march or so.

I'm running the K&N Nighthawk. Our CAIs swing to the right side, while y'alls swing left.

Any chance someone could make a video of the 80? I currently have the ported stock TB and was interested in the 80. I would like to be able to hear the 80 before I make my decision.

Mine whistles like a MoFo...

Kinda sounds like a turbo whine a bit until a I step on it and then it disappears...

Sounds normal to me, all depends on intake system as well. I put an 80mm on a Chrysler V6 this weekend (I do kits for those too) and the customer asked about the small whistle sound, normal. In particular if you only hear it at one point in the throttle application but more or less throttle and it goes away, consider it normal.

I've been messing around with my new GoPro and its too quite to catch the sound. Seems to be a certain pitch that feels like it enters your ears and you hear it faintly in the back of your head. Thats the best way I can describe it, since by the time I finally capture it on the GoPro, this thread will be 2 pages back.

To reiterate, its definitely at a very specific throttle %. Like Will said, a little less or a little more throttle and it disappears.

Thanks Will!

Glad to know its normal, will not worry about it anymore.

Since I have no high frequency hearing to speak of..
(9 years on a Marine Corps Air Station will REALLY mess up your hearing)
I guess I won't hear the whistle, but I'll bet it will drive my GF insane!
