Oh, that was kind of a tuff reply.
Want to hear a funny one? The wife and I go to visit a friend. I drink water and she pounds beers. As we get about a mile from home she starts chugging so I pull onto the shoulder so she can ralf. Within 2 seconds a Sheriff pulls up behind us. I have my license in my hand, out the window, when he approaches. He looks at my wife with the door open and puke on the ground and say's "do you have a problem sir?" I reply, "she isn't felling well" He say's (looking at my license), "Well, you aren't far from home, just take her there." That turned into the holiest Moses I would have been happier leaving her in the woods kind of mess I hope I never see again. But F it, we all take care of each other.

Thank you guys for all the tips. I am only 26 but I've had back problems for a while now, but I just feel like my car is making it worse.

Don't know your age, but on long trips you absolutely should stop every couple of hours and walk around for 5-10 minutes... especially the older you get. It's a circulation thing and helps prevent the possibility of blood clots (which could kill you).

I wonder if SS or ZL1 seats would be any better (I once adapted seats from a different make car for this very reason). One other thing, have you tried different seat back inclinations? I've found I need the seat backs tipped back more than other family members all the time, and more still on 'bad' days. Palmer - at some point, one's bladder may start to dictate the maximum interval between rest stops. Norm

I was having back problems last year from a compressed disc. Tried a chiropractor, physical therapy, had two epidurals from a pain management specialist, and finally went to an orthopedic surgeon. Spent a fortune and nothing helped.
I finally got an inversion table and hung upside down like a bat for about 5-10 minutes a day. Within a week the pain was gone and I've been pain-free ever since. I still use it a few times a week. It was the best $100 I ever spent and I only wish I would have tried this a long time ago. |

I have noticed back pain during long rides in my car as well. The fix was easy. Simply unzip and unclip the seat back. Pull the flap up and out of your way. You will see a series of horizontal "springs" that support the seat foam and ultimately your back. They are shaped.in a zig-zag pattern. Using two pairs of pliers, you can lengthen them by increasing the angles of the zig-zag, which reduces back support. You can shorten them by decreasing the angle which increases back support. In this manner you should be able to tailor the seat to your own personal comfort. Be gentle with these springs since they are thin and can break if you overstress them. This fine tuning has made.my drivers seat much more comfortable and can even be used tie revive a well worn seat back.

This is a great thread and all responses will be different but I could not use my Camaro as a DD. I am 60 now and 6 feet tall. I sat in a cubicle, tied to my desk, on the computer or on the phone or both for 25 years. I developed DDD and osteoarthritis in my lumbar. The Camaro is my fun car. For comfort, I have a Chevy Silverado crew cab and a minivan.
Chiropractic care has always been controversial. In some states, it is not even legal. The fact that they are still allowed to call themselves "doctors" is problematic. For me, I can only say that I worked in a busy hospital for 4 years and I never saw a chiropractor roaming the halls. For my issues, I saw my PCP, an Ortho with a spinal specialty, and a Physical Therapist. For a year now I have been hitting the machines at the "Y" every other day working on upper body and core. I feel much better now and would never think of stopping and going backwards. |

^^^^^ I also have experienced a lessening of acute pain since working on core strengthening and lower back/abdominal exercises. Knock on wood---I haven't had a debilitating lower back episode in years!

Just wanted to mention neurosurgeons also. Brother-in-law has chronic problem and that's his preference. I was hoping for surgery in 2001, neurosurgeon did MRI and sent me home with exercise booklet. I lost the book but if I feel the problems returning the same exercises are available online.

Glad this one was revived. There wad a lot of talk of reasons but not the cause. My question: Why would a car of this caliber not have an adjustable lumbar support?
My '07 F150 has one. My mom's '05 Civic DX had them. The '04-'06 GTO had em. I know as we age...shit happens. I drove across the country twice on Route 66 in 2010 & 2012. Now im 55, in my second battle with cancer and suddenly the Camaro is almost impossible to get comfortable in. But, alas, we find ways to make do for the love of our automobiles.
