Motortrend results suggest the two are damn near identical.

It will be difficult to beat this new ZL1 (as configured) around anything other than a tight, technical track with a future Z/28 featuring less power.

Which leads me to believe that maybe....just maybe....that winged beast that was testing around the Nurburgring was a ZL1 with what equates to a "Z07" package...perhaps now called the "race package", or "GT4 package"....I just don't know if they can use "GT4" in production...That would be wicked...and perhaps decrease the lap time into the high 7:10s - low 7:20s...

A 6th Gen Z/28 would have to be lighter than the ZL1 by 110 to 200 pounds. A Trofeo based tire and wheel package with be worth seconds on any road course. Stickier tires and better brakes are always a winning combination, but we need to be 500 NA at the rear wheels to best the new and very very very good ZL1 with all the SC HP.

I went for a long drive today on some twisty roads. The neutral handling is beyond impressive. I've never driven a car so balanced. The car has a very light on its feet feeling, and feels infinitely capable. If you get a chance to drive a GS/Z07 do it! Any car guy that truly loves handling will be besides themselves. Go Chevy!!!

I LOVE a great drive that reminds you what's great about the car.

Agreed! A beautiful day, a great set of roads and a finely engineered car.

Just watched the ZL1 Ignition on Motortrend on Demand. That car is seriously fast. I can't wait to see what the Z/28 can do.

Did you guys hear the fast newZ today?

ZL1 documented top speed of 198...reaches 202mph in one direction around VWs top speed test-oval...and if the engineers fiddled with the camber and tire pressures a bit, top speed averaged over 200mph.

DAMN!

Plus Randy just set an incredible time with the manual. It was actually 1/2 second faster than the automatic.

A real impressive car that just seems to be getting better with every test.

Now imagine what it would take to be even faster on the track.

In the top speed test, maybe just a tune to hit 200 average, certainly a pulley and tune would get it done.

Now on the road course, a set of Trofeo or Cup tires on a light weight set of wheels, bump the brakes to CF, add the aero, pull the power seats and use a lighter weight cloth manual type, rear seat delete, factory installed harness bar with six points (maybe we save a net of 50 pounds or so?) and we have a Z/28 or a ZL1.R?

Then, they fiddled with the tire pressures, and took nearly a second off the automatic's time, again.

If you watch the video real close, for whatever reason the A10 car wasn't holding as much speed through the bends, which didn't make a ton of sense.

But no matter how you cut it - yes, the car is wickedly good!!

Re: top speed...apparently all that needed to be done was set camber on all corners to 0...and overinflate the tires. Seems like you could fart in front of the thing and average over 200!!

Then on the track...I'd settle to see Trofeos/Cups w/ CCM brakes and aero....that should pull another second or two off those times, which would put it ahead of the Z06 (featuring similar equipment)!!!!

Damn that's a fast car, right there.

I guess we can forget any Z/28 this generation. It is officially the ZL1 1LE. At least they didn't screw up the Z/28 like they did the Z06.
