Is it possible the LT5 is a twin turbo monster 850 HP engine destined for a mid-engine supercar ?

Could be...the base engine could be that without the turbos. What would the HP be as it's spec'd out in the document?

Guess I wasn't paying attention. I didn't realize we knew that much about the LT5.

A DOHC of that displacement would be interesting.

If anyone was thinking 600 HP NA, they might be smoking something. That would be well beyond GM's past efforts. LS7 was probably close to maxed out. An LTx replacement might have only picked up the same 25 the LT1 gained over the LS3. And expensive.

Maybe DOHC enables that.

And Mr. Wyndham......keep us posted. Are you willing to pay what your guess was?

For the rest of the engines in the doc, it indicates whether something is turbo or superchaged. Might have omitted it, but as it sits I would say its naturally aspirated.

Upper 500s to low 600s. The Mercedes SLS AMG was in that range with a very similar engine. Sure, its AMG but its also more than 5 years old at this point.

Maybe I should clarify what I was saying. Based on the assumed performance requirements of the car, a NA Z06 would have needed something like 600 hp. What the car needs, and what a particular engine can provide can be two very different things.

And while actually achieving 600 hp would have been a very big task, I think its close enough to possible to have been worth looking into.

I think they'll test this engine out in a Vette then move it over to Camaro. GM has a lot going on in the Camaro family now, the Z/28 (if ever) will be a couple of years out.

Anything DOHC will just flat cost more than the tried and true LT1 and LS3. But probably cheaper than a SC LT4, but it would probably be close.

We simply don't know enough yet.

My guess is it's a Mid Engine Corvette/Cadillac exclusive, but obviously you can have variants of the engine in displacement and output.

I'm curious to see where this goes, if and when it is announced.

Also, I'd need a more detailed explanation, but I'm not sure NA is an emissions problem. It was with the LS7 or so we are told, but I'm really not buying that a 6.2 L LT1 at 460 HP is ok, but bump it to 500 HP and suddenly it's an issue.
The only logical conclusion is GM has no intention of allowing team Camaro to have the engines it needs. Corvette still dictates what engines are built. Hellcat already has more power and the last GT500 had more power, as well, so I doubt the next one will have less. The ZL1 1LE is a Z/28 if they had the right engine.

My guess is #3 is correct. That said, the cost of the engine will be far too dear and why you will not see it in the Camaro, unless people are willing to pay close to six figures.
