You can find one of these on Ebay for around $400 flat.
I bought a bracket that mounts to the passenger's visor clip:

Easy and clean. Bought a direct wire setup, connected it to the fuse box and tucked the wires away. Whole thing took about 10 minutes.

K40 Baby

We have been selling radar detectors for years. After picking up K40 its all I will run. We carried Passport for a long time and they work pretty good but I did get a few tickets while using them. K40 is the only company who guarantees you will not get a ticket with their system and backs it up. My boss has one on his vette. We were flying down the highway @ 120 mph trying to get to business before it closed. The radar went off and we slammed on the brakes bringing us down to 80 before he hit us. Well we got the ticket. Sent a copy of the ticket and reciept where he paid it and K40 sent him a check. Other than that he has not got one other ticket using this system it gives the furthest warnings of all the systems we've used including the V1. Plus all of the employees at K40 are radar cert. and can answer any questions you have about not only their products but all their competitors. If you have any questions call them ask for J.J. he is cool as hell.

radar jamming is illegal and a federal offense unless you have a federal license to broadcast radio signals on the correct frequency.

more importantly, all of the jammers are bogus. google them you will see.

there are some laser jammers that work and the legality of them is a gray area as you are broadcasting light with them, not a radio signal. so some argue that its not different than using a flashlight, others say they are illegal since they are designed to interfere with police equipment.

Silly, everyone knows the best way to go "undetected" is to floor it past them. You'll be going sooooo fast....radar nor man will ever see you

wonder how they get by with advertising these on the radio all the time or at least they should be forced to disclose they are not legal as u say.

I guess if the officer is using instant on all you can do is hope to pick up signals from a vehicle in front of u or are the Passport and Valentine giving u enough notice to react?

thanks for the replies so far!

From what I've read, that's the best you can hope for. And both the passport and V1 are sensitive enough to pick up those reflected signals. The Guys of Lidar just finished a big detector test. You can check it out here.

All the high end detectors have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Well I think everyone would say for under $1000 get a passport 9500ix or a V1.

Just your average consumer here...don't sell these things so no vested interest in what you decide to do...but here's my story:

I was skeptical at first when my A/V guy tried to get me to invest in the K40, this damn thing is expensive (~$1300) plus you have to pay for a few hours of labor to get it installed (~12hrs depending how it's installed)...but I knew that I didn't want suction cups, wires, or some little black box hanging out in my front window just inviting thieves to smash into my beloved camaro. I WANTED the stealth install and wanted the laser jamming capability.

So I bit the bullet and bought the K40, had it installed with both front and rear laser jamming and haven't looked back. I don't set out to speed but it is TOO EASY to get above the speed limit in these cars. This unit has saved me numerous times since it was installed in July and it has helped me to maintain a better eye on my speed also.

All I have are 2 tiny blue LEDs in my dash mounted only where I would notice them.

We sell alot of them but like the guys said they are expensive. You get what you pay for and if you dont want tickets its best to buy one of the best on the market.

K-40 will pay for your ticket if you get one, they stand behind what they sell.

I think i will most likely go with the Valentine...Lots of good reviews on it. Most likely it will be an ebay purchase. They are around $350 unless someone knows of a better place for that price or less for a new (non-refurbished) unit.

thanks
