Edmunds blog finds answer on camaro5

looks like you have to turn to the "fanatics" when Chevy PR won't respond... http://blogs.edmunds.com/roadtests/V...let-camaro-ss/

Funny.

That blog as a whole, though....geeze...He really nitpicks, which I guess is his job, but as one point he said it was similar to a Silverado HD...I mean...wha-huh?!

How funny - I guess this is a new trend!

I recently blogged about a mystery button on my non-Camaro's stereo. It looks like a telephone receiver, so obviously it has something to do with Bluetooth cell phone use, right? So, I push the button and stereo cheerfully displays: NO PHONE. I ran through the menus, but there is nothing about phones or Bluetooth. Hmmmm. I broke out the manual and there at bottom of page 23 the relevant paragraph begins:

Pressing (Phone) results in "NO PHONE" being displayed.

Ah ha! Now I'm getting somewhere!

I turned the page to continue learning about this feature and... THAT'S IT! The only purpose of the button is to inform me the car doesn't have cell phone capability! Probably the same thing as the Camaro - a feature abandoned mid-way through development. But, how funny!

By the way, the next article on Edmunds mentions the lack of remote start on with the manual transmission. Nobody seems to do that from the factory, but if you look around you CAN find aftermarket companies that have figured it out. All they did was set it up so that it's impossible to arm the remote start if there car is in gear.

Wow There are a lot of articles on that page that I could have done without. I guess I'll have to drive one to see if the steering wheel is as bad as they say

It's not a matter of figuring it out...I doubt another sensor and some computer code is the only thing standing in the way of a manufacturer from equipping manual cars with remote start...I'd bet on legal issues. If the impossible were to happen, said manufacturer would be held liable for property damage, etc...

It's my 'opinion' that he's full of $hit. That's apparently the "big" problem with this generation Camaro...heh-heh...I'm glad that's all it is.

Now that I have driven it, I really found it neutral, if not comfortable...and like I said in my review -- those little nubs come in darn handy on a high-g, or emergency maneuver: maximum grip.....but then...did you see the VW steering wheel he said was perfect? This guy is clearly not on the same page as me (and many others, I can only assume)

I really hated that column in particular...I have small hands and I love the feel of the steering wheel. Are there perhaps more ergonomic designs? Yes, but it looks good and gets the job done. It's so subjective that to suggest the steering wheel is a failure because the author is apparently really picky about where his hands are positioned is ridiculous. The comments after the articles are amusing to read, though. It seems like a lot of people are jealous they don't have a Camaro and are desperate to convince themselves and everyone else it's a bad car. If you hate it so much, why spend all your time posting about it?

Oh wow - I have no doubt that you absolutely nailed the reason this isn't offered! By the way, I did NOT intend to imply that GM couldn't "figure it out" - that was a very poor choice of words on my part. Instead I was going by my feeling that the procedure I've seen to make remote start for manual transmission seem safe and airtight and I'm just disappointed that it isn't offered (by anyone.) Now that I've thought about it, I also see how it could cause a flood of complaints and questions because it requires more end user interaction and understanding than the procedure for auto transmissions.

Gotcha, and I agree!
