I just removed mine and since there aren't any good DIY, Ill post my experience here since this was the first one that popped up when I searched. I have a 2014 2ss/rs. It removes the same way the other years do. There is no reason to twist the chrome lip which will break!! On the front of the shifter at the base just above the chrome lip is a little 'door'. Pop that off and behind it,inside is a torx head. Find a size 20 and unscrew it. it takes some muscle and it's small so be sure once loose, you're very careful not to lose it. After that is out, pull up on the shifter and it's off.

2014 soft nob replacement

My son and I just did one, 1st remove the plastic rim around the base of the leather 4 screws ,2nd lift it over the shifter itself ,3rd using a channel lock or pliers, gently grip the leather and collar, 4 th lift and turn counter clockwise, 5 slide leather back down and remove set screw,.This worked a lot easier than forcing it from the top side .
