I used to have two switchblade FOBs but they got lost. I have the manual key with no FOB that I'm using right now.
That said, I've ordered two new blank switchblade key FOBs and will have those cut. But I'm wondering if I can apply the "turn the car on with the regular key, turn it off, put the key with the FOB in the ignition, turn it on" and have it program the FOB? |

Well, I'll try it and let you know. At the very least I'll have three keys for the car instead of the one I have now. I'll be having the keys cut this weekend.

How do you turn the car on with a keyless FOB to complete the sequence?

Sorry, I was making the assumption you had a separate key with the "keyless" FOB. Like you had the "key recall" notice completed where the key was no longer part of the FOB. I was not thinking you had NO key at all to the keyless FOB. A FOB with no key at all, does nothing but unlock a door or trunk. But I supposed someone could have a spare FOB without a key in case they lock their keys in the car a lot.

No, you will have to code each key separately. Put master key in, turn to Access. for a couple seconds, then turn key to off Position. Put NEW cut key into and turn to same Access position and leave, the car will tell you when it is completed, takes only a few seconds. I have unfortunately coded 4 spare keys from one Master Key. (because the wife keeps losing the spares). The car says it has coded xxxx number of keys (or something like that in the DIC). No problem at all. I have purchase my keys from eBay, and had the dealer cut them for me. Then I have coded them all myself. I even showed the wife how to code them, since she is the one losing them. LOL |

Ok what I am understanding now is that I can't program my 2 aftermarket remotes being as I stated they both have uncut keys inside of them at the moment. What I wanted to do was be able to program these 2 remotes before taking them somewhere for the uncut keys to be cut so I know neither of these aftermarket remotes are duds which they very well may be so to say. I am guessing what I will need to do is have both uncut keys cut or take the keyblade out of the 2nd Factory remote i have and insert it into both aftermarket remotes one at a time to program them. Am I correct in my thinking? This would be the cheaper way out in order to see if both aftermarket remotes work and can be programmed. |

You can always 'try' to code them with them "in the car", just not in the ignition. I have no idea what will happen if you start the process, and then put the master key back in the ignition and turn to access. when the other FOB's in your hand, like holding them close to the other FOB (more of a distance thing maybe). It's not like it will "unprogram" anything. But we don't know unless we try. |

Otherwise Walmart parking lot would be filled with unlocked cars and open trunks. Only with a FOB that the car has been programmed to will the car respond. Sometimes, all we want to do is open a door, throw something into the backseat or trunk, lock it up, and walk away. I don't want to beat a dead horse, and I don't want to pick on you, but there are no answers in this thread as to how to program a FOB without a key. Although there are suggestions that it can be done.

Answering my own question but this forum still was a big help. What I thought to be true was true. You can program a aftermarket remote (keyfob) by taking out the key blade from a factory remote (keyfob) and inserted the blade into the aftermarket remote and then taking your other factory remote putting it in the ignition turning it clockwise until the dash light come up for about 5 seconds or more taking it out and now inserting the aftermarket remote with factory cut blade inserted in turning and the remote will show up in the DIC. It showed up as number 3. To do the 4th remote I will need to do the same with that one. All solved. At the moment I now have 4 working remotes. 2 aftermarkets that can at least get me in the car. Now I have another question being I have the keyblanks out of both aftermarket remotes and factory remote I am guessing to bring the keyblanks and factory cut key with me to get the 2 cut from a copy of the original. Am I correct. I am guessing they cut these blanks out of the remote. Someone correct me if I am wrong. I see no need for the remote. Last edited by ffas23; 06-21-2017 at 05:48 PM. |
