get a pic of the head from the top down showing where you pulled the broken push-rod from...and if you can close up of the spring(s) and rocker trunnion(s)..it is entirely possible the push-rod failed due to manufacture error but need to rule out any other possibility...and can you get the other part of the push-rod out? got a telescoping magnetic pickup? good luck

Get your hands on a borescope to get a good look at the lifter and surrounding area. Then pull the spark plug and see what you see in the cylinder.

A good articulating borescope is still really pricey, but there are cheap ones available at places like Harbor Freight. Even a cheap one should allow you to see if there is piston damage. Valve damage will be trickier, trying to get the borescope camera into the right position will take some time.

All the advice from others on here is great.



Maybe it was just pushrod failure and putting in a new one, which you have to do anyway, and giving it a test beat can't hurt.

A quick leak-down check of the cylinder will tell of there's any valve damage.
