finally loosened the motor mount, and had to completely remove it to get the header to slide up in there.. Had it just slid up in there, it would have gone a lot more quickly than 7.5 hours( Complete system install) it took me to get it in.. probably could have installed it in 3-5 hours... Once it was in, it went together pretty good..
But just to give you other guys a heads up.
If you run into a similar problem.. it's quicker to just go ahead and remove the motor mount, than it is to try and force the header up in there..

Ok, I am getting off my soap box for now...
I ordered the American racing headers, cats and Xpipe kit. They must have changed the design becuase from floor to floor it took me exactly two hours and 40 minutes just taking my own sweet time.. I did have the take the steering shaft loose but that was no big deal. Mine cleared the oil cooler heat sink with no effort at all. Sorry to hear you had problems but they must have perfected the design. Mine was pretty darn effortless.

P.S. With this system and the Loud Mouth IIs this thing turn heads when you just fire it up. Before the tune it sounded flat due to the engine being real rich from the factory. After I uploaded the tune from Mike at New Era it changed the whole note. Very crisp. It sounds like its pissed at the world when you lay into it now!

Hmmm. I dont know.. I did all that... had the car atleast 2 foot up in the air..
maybe fluke thing I dont know..
removing the motor mount was not hard.. it slid right in once that was out of the way.. I kept getting hung up on a head bolt, and the oil pump.. not enough forward space until I removed the motor mount.. It's hard to explain.. I should have taken a pic, but was not in the mode to stop, go get the camera, and snap a pic..

WOW,

Well just be gentle then......

I installed the Kooks and didn't even pull the spark plugs.

Must be a big difference in the routing of the primary tubes.

Can we get some video of the car when you recover? I'd love to hear how it sounds revving and under load.

I am glad everyone else had no problems.. but this set did.. I am not knocking ARH at all. They are very well made..
Thick flanges, high quality steel.. top notch welds, and overall great product..
I am very happy with my purchase.. just seems something went wrong.. dont know if it was me, or just this set, but this wasnt my first rodeo..
hell when I installed a set on my 99 Z28, i didnt have that much problem.. lift the car high enough, and they slid right in..
oh well, I will know next time
I will be doing a buddy of mine here soon.. he wants to the same setup.

NO mechanic by any means here, did my install of the ARH catted longtubes in 3 hours, only thing i needed to do was detach the steering mechanism. I used a lift also which helped tons, other than that and the passenger side being tight spaced, it was a breeze.

Sounds like me and you had a similiar problem except mine was with borla axle back. Everyone swears up and down its an piece of cake install maybe 30 minutes to get borlas to attach to factory piping but I went to a 30+ year muffler guy and we had it on a lift and there was no way the borlas i got were atttaching to the facctory pipes, the bends were almost opposites. It was the weirdest thing but stuff like this does happen. Nobody else has had much problems with the headers and nobody else has had same problem with the axle backs. But me and you clearly had two rather isolated problems.

You sure you didn't actually have them swapped on the wrong side

I know the G8 and the Camaro share the Zeta platform but I don't know how similar the engine/steering shaft are. I had to unhook my steering shaft and my headers went right in with no effort. If you think the gen 5 sucks try doing it on a gen 4 F-body. I'll swap them on my G8 all day long before I consider the gen 4 again.
