I plan on moving to Texas in about two years, that front plate law needs to go!

I used to put my front license plate in the dash couple years ago. I hate how it looks on the front bumper.
But... I stopped putting it on my dash as well when one of my friends pointed out some of possibilities if I got in a crash. Really not interested in sharp metal flying around in the cabin in the case of an accident.

A buddy of mines brother got a ticket the other day for not having a front plate AND he had it on his front dash!

But that still isnt going to stop me from NOT putting it on my Camaro! I hate the way front plates look!

On the dash will still get you a ticket, the plate has to be on the front of the car.

If you have it in your dash and they give you a ticket, you can get it dismissed. There are interpretations in the law that allow for the plate to be on the dash. Not all police officers are trained or understand them, but they exist from other persistant folks getting them officially posted.

Nope, all I'll say is that I work for a rather large oilfield services company.

After a while, all parking garages start to look the same, don't they...

Actually yes...most forward part of car must have the tag...meaning the bumper! But I've seen so many cars with it in the dash that maybe I'll just leave it there...since leaning over could turn bad quickly!

From what I understand, the law changed. I USED to be that it was the most forward part of the car.

Now...I understand it to be that it must at least be VISIBLE from the front. That means putting it in the dash is cool...as long as I can read it when looking in my rear view mirror at you.

If I look back and it's laying flat on the dash, THAT is a ticket. If I look back and it's leaning against the window at an angle, but is still legible, you are in the clear.

So...depends on the officer and how it's positioned.

It's not holes in the front bumper that bothers me... It's simply the plate detracting from the front of the car. The GM mount is the best looking thing available. So if I'm ever forced to put it on I'll just do it right.

Before that happens I'm taking Tags advice... and have it handy on the back floorboard..

Front plate is still not really a big deal in TX, just an add on to what ever else you were doing wrong.

what happens if you have your dealership (Advertisment/Logo) thing thats on it when you buy ur car and not the plate. cuz i have a plate on the back but not on the front the front has the dealer thing. I never had a plate on my other car for about 8 years until i went to the dps office and they made me put it on.

Talk to a few traffic cops yesterday about this very thing. Both stated that yes it is a law that the vehicles in texas must have a visible front plate, but they are looking more for seatbelt and inspections than the front plate. However, it is a ticketable offense with like a 100 dollar fine. One cop made the sugestion that I put it on the dash and that would suffice. The other then mentioned that it has to be visible, and he had seen some people go to "walmart" and buy those clear suction cups with the large "nipple" on the back. They slide right into the holes of the plate and will hold it securely to the lower part of the winshield from the inside.

Probalby what I'm going to do when my car comes in. I'll take some pic's and post when I get it done!
