If you put low octane gas in an SS, the ECM starts pulling timing/mixtures and other data I'm not smart on from the "low octane" tables. This definately affects engine performance. Check the fuse pull thread on the V8 engine discussion.

Chill out dude. Did your Camaro come with an owner's manual?? I do believe it states in there which octane to use depending on your engine size.
Mine gets nothing but 91 octane from Mobil every time.
(As for the octane boost, I wouldn't do it, just let this gas burn through and be done with it.)

The octan rating here in Europe is different to the US.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating :
In most countries, including all of those of Europe, and Australia, the "headline" octane rating shown on the pump is the RON - but in the United States, Canada, and some other countries, the headline number is the average of the RON and the MON, called the Anti-Knock Index (AKI). It may also sometimes be called the Road Octane Number (RdON), Pump Octane Number (PON), or (R+M)/2.

As you can see in the table on the wikipedia page US-regular 87 is equivalent to European 91, US-91 equivalent to "EuroSuper" 95 and US-premium 93 equivalent to European "SuperPlus" 98.
At big gas stations in Europe you can also get "SuperPlus 100".

So in Europe we don't use higher rated gasoline, there are just different calculation methods.

I run @ least 87 octane, even though 85 is an option...locals carry only 85, 87, or premuim unleaded. Been OK.

Don't be cheap with your shiny new camaro SS, its been debated over and over again. Your not gonna save very much per tank, they reccomend premium so use premium. I honestly can't believe how many times this comes up.

91 Octane, usually at 76. That is the highest Octane in Cali.

I think the owners manual even says to put 91 in it.

is it ok to put 91 or 93 in the v6, the dealer filled it with sunoco 93 ultra for first tank, i had a little less then a quarter tank today and filled it with 87 at costco. just wondering if its ok to put the premuim in the v6, it seemed to have run smoother with the 93, but i just might be thinking that, have to look closer.

93 octane is good for the SS, at higher altitudes 91 is fine.
