Quick review of the ZL1 in Forza 4 + tune setup
I just bought the ZL1 from the August carpack and it won me $200k in the S class World Championship.
I will post my upgrades and tune settings below. First off, wow. This thing drives so much better than the SS. Although it still feels like driving a boat at times, it is a much more planted boat than the 2010 SS model. The S class Championship pitted the ZL1 against the Ferrari 599 GTO, Lexus LFA, GT-R, Lambo Reventon, Mclaren MP4-12C, and some others--but the ZL1 still won. My main goal with using the ZL1 against these exotic supercars was to reduce as much weight as possible and THEN add a little bit of power, to achieve a similar power-to-weight ratio that those supercars already have. The ZL1 weighs more than the SS, so weight reduction is PRIORITY. So here is what I did: Upgraded to [S/700] class. ENGINE & POWER Intake: Race Fuel Sys: Stock Ignition: Stock Exhaust: Race Camshaft: Stock Valves: Stock Displacement: Race Pistons: Race Supercharger: Stock Intercooler: Stock Flywheel: Stock PLATFORM & HANDLING Brakes: Race Springs & Dampers: Race Front & Rear Anti-Roll Bars: Race Chasis: Race Weight Reduction: Race DRIVETRAIN Clutch: Sport Transmission: Stock Driveline: Stock Differential: Race TIRES & RIMS Tire Compound: Race Front Tire Width: 295/35R20 Rear Tire Width: 345/30R20 Wheel: ATS Classic (or your choice) AERO None CONVERSION None Tuning: Tires: 30PSI Front, 30 PSI Rear Gearing: Stock Camber: -0.5 Front, -0.5 Rear Toe: 0 Front, 0 Rear Front Caster: 4.0 Anti-Roll Bars: 29.23 Front, 23.50 Rear Springs: 828.0 Front, 812.1 Rear Ride Height: 5.5 Front, 5.8 Rear Rebound: 8.7 Front, 8.5 Rear Bump: 6.6 Front, 6.5 Rear Aero: n/a Braking Balance: 60% Front Braking Pressure: 150% Differential Accel: 75% Differential Decel: 75% The race difficulty settings: ABS: On Steering: Normal Stability: Off Traction: On Shifting: Manual w/ clutch (or just manual) Sugg. And for anybody who is in the Camaro5 club on Forza, I will share the car in the garage so you can try it out. |

Yeah it's a lot, I know. You can literally end up spending hours test and tuning one car...

az2ss, you need to buy Forza Motorsport 4 and then you have to spend Microsoft Points to either buy the August Playseat car pack, or buy the ZL1 individually from the car points, which still costs MS points, but less than the full pack.
Snoppyace, I'm assuming you're not running aero because you were racing on Le Sarthe and didn't want the drag. Try these settings out and see how you like it. It's all from memory right now. Tuning: Tires: 28.5 PSI Front, 28.5 PSI Rear Camber: -1.0 Front, -0.9 Rear Front Caster: 6.0 Anti-Roll Bars: 23.5 Front, 22.5 Rear Springs: 650 Front, 650 Rear Ride Height: as low as it will go Rebound: 8 Front, 7.8 Rear Bump: 4 Front, 3.9 Rear Aero: adjustable front/rear Braking Balance: 54% Front Braking Pressure: 88% Differential Accel: 70% Differential Decel: 50% Your ARB settings are going to cause it to understeer way too much on long sweeping turns. The car does much better with a neutral ARB, Spring and Damper setup, with less rear damper to keep the rear end from swinging out on fast left/right switches. I could probably go softer on the springs for better tire compliance on bumpy roads and hitting curbs, but it does ok with that at 650. Plus, I like Infineon and that track can cause soft sprung cars to bottom out a lot. One big change you should think about is the brake pressure. With it that high, you are basically turning your brakes into an on/off switch. ABS is going to be on all the time and that's going to make your braking less efficient than if you made it lower and finessed the brake to minimize ABS. On Suzuka East, which is one of my main tuning tracks, I posted a 53.189 laptime which is #2296 on the leaderboard. I'm a decent driver and I could probably drop it into the 52 second range if I really tried.

As for the brakes, it's just a habit for me... It's so hard for me to finess the brake with the controller :/ But I understand what you mean and I don't doubt it. Good pointers man. |

I finally got around to trying this setup. I must say my zl1 whips pretty hard now. I like this setup.

Snoopy, if the aero puts it into R3, start with the clutch and then start taking off engine bits to keep it in S class. I prefer max handling over a little more power for my Forza cars.
The Performance Index formula in Forza 4 seems to reward having aero because it lowers the top speed number a significant amount, which opens up more PI for handling upgrades. Since most tracks don't really have long enough straights to come close to top speed, it really doesn't penalize you for running aero for just about everything. It would be interesting to do a comparison of aero vs. no aero on Circuit de la Sarthe to see which one is faster. That's the only track where I'd say no aero has a shot. Let me know how it's handling for you and if you think it's got too much over/understeer in any particular part of a corner.
