I thought you were referring to the mustang.
If you only have 302 crank horsepower, you do not have a "street//strip" build. You more than likely don't even have a full bolt on lt1. I am going to say driver's race, assuming your lt1 is up to par (which with the dreaded optispark, a "healthy" lt1 is hard to find), with a slight edge to the mustang.

Just by the HP/TQ #'s it should be close, but he'll have the edge.....a few choice mods and you'll do just fine!
ROUSH Performance has released a new limited-edition Mustang Convertible package for the 2008 model year. The "Speedster" package features an optional ROUSHCharger Powertrain upgrade which produces 430 hp and 400 lb.-ft of torque. All the Mustangs sport an automatic transmission.

Just get one of those sneaky pete 1 time use NOS cans.....What are they like $120? A little insurance could help with $300 on the line...

In a couple years I'll be using a twin-turbo setup. For now, I'll soon have longtubes, intake, and a catback. Would that be enough? I've never raced before either so I think I'd need to learn how to launch well too.

my opinion is you will win. i have an A6 with just cai, catback exhaust and tune - running 12.9 1/4 mi. a buddy of mine has an 09 427r (435 hp/400 ft lb) and is running high 12.7s, low 12.8s. with the added headers its possible to pick up a few tenths. i think youd win.

Why would you buy long tubes if you're going to turbo the car? What a waste of money. . .
