And as far as the times fluctuating, not really what I've personally seen...On decent runs I've seen between 13.2 and 13.5. I've seen worse but I'm not going to count the times when a guy does his stock tire burnout in the water-box and then spins the first 100 feet of track. I'm just talking about good runs. Believe me, Ive seen camaros run 15 seconds too but if the person cannot drive, why even talk about it.

I got nothing against fords or stangs. I've owned 6 fords in the past, including 3 different stangs, and I still have my f-150 and I love it. I just feel that since the 5.0 came out "alot" of mustang fanatics are real quick to stomp on the new camaro and say how slow it is compared to the new stang. I just havent seen any that impressed me yet, that's all
Well they didn't do too bad in 03 and 04 with the Terminators but you're right, Ford has always just kind of stayed status quo up until now. Chrysler and Chevy forced them to really look at where this whole 21st century muscle car war is headed. Those mags can be misleading and frustrating man, I understand. I have never been a fanboy either. I have the Stang up for sale right now because I have a family that needs to come first. It is being replaced by a big ole 1990 square body Chevy Suburban with a 350

The 5th gens are definitely nowhere near slow.

Problem with the 1/4 racing is finding someone who can actually DRIVE one and not just quote out of the "motor trend" mag how fast their car is which is all I've seen at the track since the 5.0 came out. I have yet to see anybody go faster than a 13.2 in a stock 5.0 with 3.73's in it. And I'm talking during bad weather and in almost perfect weather. So, again, it's all about the driver. And I'm at a track almost every weekend.

But of course, then come all the "mustang" excuses:

I couldnt get no traction...

The track isnt prepped right..

My foot slipped...

I missed 2nd gear...

I missed 3rd gear...

I missed 4th gear...

and on and on....

Dont get me wrong, I like the new mustang, I wish I could afford both but I can't. I preffered the Camaro for whatever reason...

So if this BOSS mustang is going to be so much better than the gt then I guess it's going to be faster than the gt500 which has 110 more h/p than the BOSSOr maybe motor trend will put the numbers to make "sense" and say the Boss will run a 12.6 stock since the gt runs 12.7 and the gt500 runs 12.5

I guess I'll have to see it to beleive it but by then I'll be running 10's
When I had only 240kms or so on my new 2011 5.0, I ran a 12.8 at 109 mph, and I spun my tires all the way tru first gear, I had a bad launch, as it was my first time driving the car since I traded in my 2010 GT. I only had the time to do one run as it was a busy day. Ive seen SS camaro's run faster than that, non stock, but still, ive seen stock SS's hit 13 flat and 12.8 with decent non DR tires too... point is, the 2011 is a faster car stock for stock, no mods, same driver giving an HONEST run on both cars, But I still like the camaro better than my GT in some aspects, and the GT in others. Not all mustang owners make exuses, its not the car man, its the person behind the wheel. Camaro's that Ive beaten on the street say the same lame ass shit, so do GT and SRT and even the dam yuppie car drivers. Its not a brand loyal exuse, but an embarrased, soor loser thing to make exuses. Ive lost races too, my 74 camaro has over 550 HP PLUS 200hp N.O.S shot, and ive still lost races, sometimes I DID blow a gear, or he was just faster... Now that my GT isnt stock anymore, I cant honestly compare it to a stock SS, but I aint been to the track since modding it either so I cant say how fast I am, but I will say this, I welcome any camaro owner to run me on street, or track, modded or stock, cause this is a FUN sport, and win or lose, its FUN to try, and FUN to work on your cars...and more importantly, its DAM FUN to keep embarrasing those dame rice rocket, yuppie car wannab's...

I'm with you all the way on this. That is the point i'm trying to make Just because m/t mag says it's a 12.7 car, it aint a 12.7 car unless YOU can do it. Alot of these guys at the track with the 5.0's say "my car runs 12.7's and it's faster than yours" but then they line up and run a 13.4 I dont doubt for a minute that it's capable of those times, it's common sense when you consider h/p, weight, and gearing it's a winner, but it aint worth a crap unless you, as the driver, can do it And, of course, after mods on either car.....all bets are off

you're right about the 03 and 04 cobras (my son wants one to smoke me, he says)but gm dropped the ball by discontinuing the Camaro for so long, but I guess they're making up for lost time now.

And I'm really sorry you gotta sell your ride man, that's gotta hurt. And I know what those modded fox bodies can do. There's a few I see at the 1/8 mile track I go to running high 3's, low 4's with small block fords and turbos at almost 200 mph Well good luck to you and your family...I hope everything works out

Well damn. I pegged your argument totally wrong from the beginning.

And to this post.

Thanks man, and you're right about it hurting a little with the sale of my car. I will just let fate run it's course on this one. It's a tough time right now, economically, to sell a car like this. Difficult for guys to justify it to their wives
Good thread guys...

Camaro vs. Mustang

Hello everyone...I'm in the same position as a few others here. I'm deciding between an auto/base V6 Mustang and a base Camaro. Putting aside looks and performance, here's what's making my decision a bit easier...

Camaro base over base Mustang:

1. On-Star (could be a life saver)
2. Side curtain airbags - Mustang only seat.
3. Telescoping steering wheel - Mustang tilt only
4. Auto headlights - Not on base Mustang.
5. Daytime lights
6. Steering wheel 'flippers' for manual mode
7. Remote trunk release (read somewhere Mustang has none - not sure)
8. Digital/analog speedometer
9. 18" wheels - Mustang 17" standard
10. 5/100,000 powertrain - Mustang 5/60,000 ( big factor)
11. Independent suspension
12. Partial power seat (seatback) - Mustang all manual
13. Satellite radio

There's probably more. The automatic base Camaro is $400.00 more then base Mustang I'm looking at. I still like the Mustang, but these features are a big plus for me...

Thanks for a great site!

Frank

Welcome to the site!
Either car is a good buy. My opinion (LOL)
Camaro looks & drives better. Mustang has a slight edge in performance. (regardless engine options across the model line up)

the new V6 stang drives way nicer and is a better handling car by FAR than the new camaro ls or lt, hell, it even handles better than the ss if equipped with the track pack...
