Both excellent points!

The current state of affairs doesn't support that theory...

I am and will always be a GM Camaro guy, but I disagree GM follows Ford once again. However they always come out smokin'!
But that Mustang Boss is quite awesome. I'd take one.

I won't begrudge you an opinion.

Thought: Ford didn't bring the weight down from the GT to the Boss, in fact, it gained 7 pounds (in these test figures). The real gains on the road course came from the suspension work/chasis refinement, and a modest bump in HP. It would not be out of question for the ZL-1 to see the kind of road course gains as the mustang did if they break even in the weight department.

It all about getting the HP to the ground and getting the most out of the platform. As stated before I am very optimistic that the car will perform. No way are they going to release it with out it being equal or in front of the GT500 performance. (hoping way in front ) Against the 302, that will be interesting.

The launch control will be key. They can raise the HP on the GT500 but it needs to get it to the ground. I am guessing that ZL1 will be over 550 HP. Already they state electric power steering and dual mode exhaust which the CTS-V does not have. 556HP from the bench I am guessing at least 565-575.

Suspension and traction control will define this car not to mention over 550 HP.

Look it this way, the "extra" weight of the car will help it get better traction. LOL

You are right on this. GM is content to see what Ford is doing in this space, then 'raise' or 'call' depending on the offering. Nothing wrong with that, just the current state of the union.

ZL1 vs. Boss Drag Racing

While most on here think a stock ZL1 will destroy a stock BOSS 302 in a drag race, this video might make your eyes widen slightly. The Boss is no slouch, in the twisties or in a straight line.

Now if that was stock (except for tires) that was excellent run! I noticed exhaust from rear pipes, and it didn't sound like it had anything extra (like nitrous), but you never know. I would sure hope the Boss doesn't spank the ZL1 on normal test runs! I expect ZL1 to truly be KING of the street and strip based on preannouncement verbage. FAITH!!

PS: please add 6A to lineup!

I find that hard to believe. So basically your saying it will out run a base C6 and almost a Z06. Highly unlikely.

Stickers in window does not vaidate anything. I can see the car running low 12's with perfect conditions and multiple runs.

I know both of these cars from the inside out. As Hot Rod said, through a blanket over them, they are an even match. For now we know what the BOSS is because it has been released. Only the insiders at GM KNOW what the ZL1 is. Arguing about which Ford is or will be better is a waste of time. At 500 RWHP the ZL1 is a loser? So at 600 RWHP it is the Holy Grail?
How are the brakes "decent" on the boss, but the zl1 has "very good brakes" . . .? Isn't the zl1 getting the cts-v brake setup that pulls longer stopping distances than the boss? From what I've read, there's no indication of fade after multiple laps of LS with the upgraded pads and lines that come with the boss, so I don't see how there could be that much of a difference between the zl1 braking and the boss, if any. As for the suspension being, "ordinary" well I haven't seen adjustable struts on many production cars and despite being a live axle setup, it's doing some seriously impressive handling. I get your point about the tech, but results are results and the boss is posting them.

The trap speed is perfectly in line with stock power output. He cut a 1.6x 60' on the drags. It makes perfect sense. You're in denial my friend. If you put those tires on a z06 it would be cutting 10s easy. It ran 12.3 on stock tires, which is exactly what should be expected with pretty good driving.

Basically yes. It has the gearing and a huge power band. Not to mention the "second Red key"
