It's a shame that ANY cars even come with such a thing as a limit on this or that. I should be able to go as fast as the car can go....after all I paid for it. If they are going to limit anything, they should limit those damn riding lawnmowers, those damn things could kill somebody!
they limit them so idiots dont drive faster then the tires are rated so they dont explode, cause a crash and then the earlier mentioned idiots sue manufacturer because the car could do 170 but the tires were rated for doing 155.

ps im not calling you an idiot.

Don't forget you will have to upgrade the tranny as well

Didn't think so.

I can accept this explanation. I don't really think I'll ever hit that kind of speed BUT it sure would be nice for the car manufacturers to offer up the high-speed tires as an option and include a "disable the limiter" option with the purchase. Yeah I know it's far-fetched, I'm just sayin'

what's with the cat?

we're not whinning: they should put a big sticker on the car "only use x tyres" !!!! not limit the engine. By this rule if some sod would only like to use used tyres his car would be limited to 80 mph.

I'll be leaving the speed limiter in place. I don't ever plan on driving that fast, and at least I'll know that if somebody steals it they won't be able to either until they get the car somewhere to crack the box.

I was lead to believe that most limiters were in place because of the limits of the weakest component(s)

Coefficient on this car is actually in the high 20s out of the box. The car has extraordinary air management employed to deal with the bolder front fascia, the rest of the car is butter. Dropping the car down about 1" will also really, really help.

Usually the speed rating of the stock tires. Most people who even contemplate removing the limiter will also be replacing the tires.
