They came close with the Camaro.

The mirrors and lights had to be changed to meet regulations. Aside from that the car and concept are very close.

They're close... but theyre are some things i wish we had, like the smaller mirrors, the aluminum and copper interior accents... etc. I give the nod to Dodge for making the Challenger almost identical to the old ones.... they just need to figure out how to put em on a diet!

Basically all they changed were the cool looking headlights and cross-hair grill from the concept.

They did. For my part, I'm 100% thankful that wasn't Chevy's intention.

Also consider something...(This is not Chevy-nuthugging, btw...just a factoid)

General Motors did not approve the Camaro for production for nearly 8 months after the concept was shown. When that show car was designed, it was not at all expected to be produced. Dodge took the opposite approach. They knew they were going to produce it, they had worked on it a little already, and the "concept" was basically a preview of the final model.

This, for me, makes it even more remarkable how close the Camaro team came to replicating that concept car.

Camaro / Mustang

So I was at a party over the weekend and got into the discussion with a guy who sells fords. After he found out I had a camaro it all started. I just asked if I could come down and take a 5.0 out. From there on out I was continuously told that the mustang is in its own league and that the camaro has nothing on it. Remember this is coming from someone who has never drove a camaro. So I brought up drivers ability and I then was told that it dosent matter anyone in a new 5.0 will be able to out drive the camaro. So my question is to anyone that has driven both is the 5.0 all that he is making it out to be.

they are so close in performance. of course the ford salesman is going to tell you that the mustang amazing. no one makes sales by talking about how poor their product is.

have you not read any of the camaro vs mustang threads?

you'll find magazine results that put the camaro ahead of the mustang, and the mustang ahead of the camaro. it's a drivers race, stock for stock.

where the mustang wins is factory offered gear ratio options.

i have driven a stock 5.0L and a 500HP 5.0L and they are fast. its probably over all got better numbers on the track then a camaro, but i like the feel of the camaro better.. hands down the 5.0L is faster then a camaro... not by a whole lot
