I had a similar piece found in my filter as well. But thats what a filter is for. I cut it open and new I would find something. Just how big or how much was another story. No worries at all. Its actually common to find metal particles in filters on new engines. Some happen to be bigger than others.

You should have bought a V8
Seriously, though, what's the big deal? The filter did its job.

It definately looks like a chip from a lathe, curious to know is it steel or aluminum?

It looked like steel to me, I'll have to go double check.

He has the LLT engine, it uses a filter "cartridge" that looks just like this (no can). It fits into a pre-cast portion of the block, opposed to being screwed into the bottom of the engine like traditional oil filters. It's a little easier to work with.

This looks like a metal chip off a lathe that may have been stuck in the block somewhere so I'm not too concerned.
Car runs awesome, doesn't use a drop of oil and gets 32 MPG highway.

yeah!..love mine!..great ride, plenty of balls, and appears to be well built for the long haul!..lots of fun!..

work on aircraft engines and have sen this several times and it is called allowable metal. Its just machining debris and wont make it past the filter.
